Comment by Brandy on Graphic Novel Review: Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner

Gloeckner and R Crumb were/are friends. He even mentions her in one of his comics, I'm not sure if she mentions him...

Is this the novelised version? I have read her comics (graphic novels). I had a completely different interpretation than your review did: I did not at ALL see her 'relationship' with her stepfather figure as 'equal' or even a 'relationship'. She makes it pretty clear this was abusive and incestuous. And a lot of her comics and work deals with this abuse and its after-effects.

A lot of abuse survivors become hyper-sexual and self-destructive and that seems to be what happened with Phoebe also.
