DVD Review: Spark Of Insanity
Published May 19, 2008
Spark of Insanity, a DVD from Image Entertainment, takes us into the mind of comedian Jeff Dunham. This performance was taped at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C., and it first appeared in a shorter form on Comedy Central. This extended version of the comedy concert is without edit. We see Jeff and his suitcase full of pals in all of their glory. During his hour-long show, we see some of our favorite characters including Peanut, Walter, and José Jalapeño. We also have some new faces in the form of Achmed the Dead Terrorist and Melvin the Superhero. All these characters, seen in the form of puppets, come to us from the mind of Jeff Dunham.
He uses a variety of voices while controlling the puppets. Sometimes he even has two of the puppets going at once, and this talent just amazes. You never know just what the characters might end up saying. This comedy performance touches on many subjects including family issues and events happening in the world today. I found myself laughing throughout the performance, and I’ve been a fan of Jeff Dunham’s for quite sometime. He is truly talented in what he does, traveling the country with his suitcase of friends, and making people laugh. Dunham holds nothing back here.
This DVD also includes some great special features. We go behind the scenes to see how one of Jeff’s creations is made by seeing Melvin come to life. Jeff takes us step by step in the building of the puppet, and there is a lot that goes into the creation of the character. Other additional features include a message from Walter and a feature from Jose that asks you what else you would put on a stick. This DVD runs eighty minutes in length, and it is worth the price you pay. There are quite a few laughs to be had by just sitting and watching Jeff and his pals in action.
