Music DVD Review: Scorpions - Live at Wacken Open Air 2006
Published May 18, 2008
Although not at the same level, I was also disappointed with the overall audio and video quality of this disk. Dolby Digital 5.1 surround and PCM stereo tracks are provided, but things never really get beyond the point of sounding too compressed and muddled. All of the instruments kind of blended together into one big wall of sound, and each guitar was non-distinct in the mix. What a shame for such a tremendous guitar showcase.
The picture was just average. A little grainy, and not particularly sharp. Oh, and did I forget to mention that there was ZERO bonus material included. Could there have been a more opportune time to get some interviews with each of these current and future members of the Scorpions to shed some light on the amazing history of this great German band? Some behind-the-scenes footage of all that went into arranging such a momentous event would have been pretty fascinating too.
Don't let my last few paragraphs completely discourage you from picking up this DVD. It is just very frustrating to get something so flawed, when your expectations are so high. The Scorpions performance certainly wasn't flawed though. This guys are still rockin' better and harder than the first time I saw them more than twenty years ago.
