TV Review: American Idol - Top Three

David Cook - "Dare You To Move"
David C's performance of Switchfoot's "Dare You To Move" was a decent performance. I didn't really like the arrangement, and it wasn't his best vocal by far, but it was still entertaining. Randy said, "Perfect song choice. I love that band. A little pitchy." Paula said, "I wanted more." Simon said, "I thought all three of you had an okay middle round. It was what I expected - not a very melodic song."
Next we moved on to…Producers' Choice:
David Archuleta - "Longer"
I thought the producers' choice of Dan Fogelberg's "Longer" resulted in David A's best performance in the night. Yes, it was another ballad, but he sang it well, and was very much in his comfort zone. Randy said, "It was another hot one from you." Paula said, "Very lovely. I expect nothing more." Simon said, "I thought you sang it well. However, I thought the song and lyrics were horrible."
Syesha Mercado - "Hit Me Up"
The producers' choice for Syesha of Gia Farrell's "Hit Me Up" seemed a little odd to me. Granted, the front end of the performance was lively and fun, but it deteriorated toward the end. Randy said, "It was just okay for me." Paula said, "I don't know if it's going to be good enough to get you into the finals." Simon said, "It was better than the second song. I don't think anything this week has topped your performance last week."
David Cook - "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"
Ah! The producers' choice of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" for David C was a great one! I think this was the top performance of the night. I loved it, even though the beginning was a little on the rough side. Randy said, "It was okay for me." Paula said, "David - see you in the finals!" Simon said, "David Cook wins the night."!"
So, that wraps up the top three show. Next week is the finale! I'm fairly sure we're going to see a David vs. David showdown - what do you think? My ranking follows:
Here's my personal ranking for the week:
1. David Cook
2. David Archuleta
3. Syesha Mercado

The two Davids will be at the finish line and unless the teeny vote is overwhelming I think David Cook will take it because he has real star potential. The other David will do just fine with whatever he tries and will taken care of after the show ends. Syesha is beautiful, talented, has a great personality, but unfortunately is not a fav in the eyes of the judges. It was very apparent who they liked last night and was almost mean in some cases.
I was not aware of a problem (recent) with David A's dad although I've heard stories from earlier. Parents should be supportive and not controlling in these situations.

What I found most interesting about last night's show was that Syesha seemed really resigned to her fate. I think she's pretty much aware that she won't end up in the top two and she was just having fun out there. I thought the rendition of "Fever" was sexy and that she showed another aspect of her character. She seems perfectly fitted for Broadway/musical theatre and I think she'll do well.
Once again David A. bored the crap out of me. Yes, he's a technically good singer, but my oh my is he ever bland. Perfect for the High School Musical set, though, who seem to love their popstars bland and tasteless.
Any thoughts on the banning of Jeff Archuleta (David's dad) from backstage, btw?
