DVD Review: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark: Special Collector's Edition
Published May 13, 2008
Back in 2003 the Indiana Jones trilogy was released as a four-disc set on DVD. Now, just in time to whet the appetite for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, we’re getting “special editions” of all three films that you can buy either as a box set or, for the first time, individually. If you don’t have the movies already or are an absolute die-hard Indy fan I would say pick up whichever version of the new release you’d like. The extras include:
"New Introduction by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas": The filmmakers discuss Raiders.
"The Indy Trilogy: A Crystal Clear Appreciation": The cast and producers of The Crystal Skull discuss what the Indy trilogy means to them.
"The Mystery of The Melting Face": A featurette which shows how they did the special effects for this sequence at the end of the movie.
"Snakes Alive! The Well of Souls Storyboards": Shows the scene and the storyboards to go along with it.
Photo Galleries and "Lego Indiana Jones": The original Adventures demo game.
The extras don’t make this a re-buy; sure, they’re interesting, but we’ve yet to get any Indy movies with commentary and I think we could see yet another set when Crystal Skull comes out in time for the Christmas holiday. So while the movie is great, I would rent the special edition, unless you don’t have it as part of your collection, to which I say “What are you waiting for?”
