Looking Forward: New Albums From Weezer, Roxy Music, And More

Aimee Mann, husky-voiced former frontwoman for 80’s hit maker ‘Til Tuesday, is back with her 7th studio album, @%&*! Smilers. The album, which stays true to her playful, bluesy style, is due out at the beginning of June. What’s special about this particular release is the limited edition steel screw book-bound packaging, which was designed in hopes of boosting CD sales.

The legendary Roxy Music announced that they’re working on their first album since Avalon, released 25 years ago. This exciting announcement was followed by one that many thought would never happen: Brian Eno, begrudging member of the original lineup, would also be on board. The band has been working on the album since late 2004, and it’s due out some time this year. More information as it become available.

Jakob Dylan, son of Bob Dylan and frontman of the Wallflowers, is releasing his debut solo album, Seeing Things. Unlike his alternative rock work with the Wallflowers, Dylan is stepping into his father’s folk rock footsteps with plenty of acoustic guitar work and strained vocals.

On June 24th, Weezer with release their self-titled 6th studio album (Red). The first single, "Pork & Beans", is out now on iTunes. However, those who shun iTunes will be in for a real treat. Preorder Weezer from interpunk, insound, or smartpunk and you will receive a free limited edition red 7” vinyl single of "Pork & Beans" and an exclusive b-side. Get them while you can.

On the compilation front, The Police and Radiohead (2 disc) will each release a Best Of, releasing on May 28th and June 2nd, respectively.

Actress turned singer Scarlett Johansson will release her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, on May 20th. The album features contributions from David Bowie and songwriting by Tom Waits.

Update: Last week I mentioned a new album from The Cure that was still untitled. It was recently revealed that the title will be Raised Up.

That’s it for this weeks edition of Looking Forward.
