Favorite Indiana Jones Moment, According to Poll

As the excitement builds over the highly anticipated film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (opening May 22), MovieTickets.com is running a series of online consumer polls based on the first three films. Last week about 2,000 people responded to the question: What is your favorite Indiana Jones moment?

46% - Indy shooting the expert swordsman in Raiders of the Lost Ark

18% - Indy and the boulder in the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark

15% - Indy reaches under a closing door to grab his hat in Raiders of the Lost Ark

11% - The mine cart escape from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

10% - The snake pit in Raiders of the Lost Ark

What I find interesting is that most of these scenes are specifically from one film. I don't know if respondents were free to write their own answers, or if they had to choose from a predetermined list. If the former were the case, this suggests that out of the three films, Raiders of the Lost Ark is the most memorable.

It's too bad no one mentioned the "melting Nazi faces" scene in Raiders or the "heart-ripping sacrifice" scene in Temple of Doom, though I suppose they could be part of a separate poll that asks, "What's the most disturbing Indiana Jones moment?"

By the way, here's a fun fact: the swordsman scene wasn't in the original script. According to the IMDb, actor Harrison Ford was supposed to use his whip to yank the swords from his opponent. However, Ford was suffering from a severe bout of food poisoning the day of the shooting and was too ill to perform the stunt successfully. When someone jokingly suggested that he just shoot the guy, director Steven Spielberg decided to run with that idea. The rest, as they say, is film history.

Now it's my turn to ask: What is your favorite Indiana Jones moment?

Menacing coat hanger - (Raiders of the Lost Ark) When the Nazi agent drops in on Belloq in his tent during Marion's drunken knife fight, he slowly reveals a menacing contraption made from rods and chains. We are wondering if this is some kind of torture device. And then he promptly turns the device into a coat hanger for his coat.

Although there are many memorable moments from the old orginal three indiana jones movies in my opinion those will be the last. the forth installment was probably the biggest dissapointment in movie history, what were they thinking? I think Indiana used his whip once and shot a gun once, this is not an indiana jones movie it's more like a cheap version of national trasure compined with a movie you would see on the space network. What does this movie have to offer?
