TV Review: Lost - "The Shape of Things To Come"
Published April 27, 2008
It was great to see a full on action scene in Lost again. We haven't really had one for a while, it's just been mainly dialogue-centric stuff, but we had an all-out shootout between the freighter intruders and Sawyer. It wasn't at all fair but I think Sawyer put up a good fight.
One of the reasons I love Lost so much is because of the questions it raises. A lot of people don't like that it raises more questions than it answers, and that has subsequently caused quite a few people to stop watching because of impatience, but I personally think it's why it's so damn great. Here we have had tons of questions raised, just in this one episode; Did Ben control the smoke monster? What happened on the freighter that resulted in the doctor's death? Why was Ben unsure of the year? These, and many more, are all questions I will ponder endlessly until next episode and beyond.
What I Didn't Like
As a devoted fan of the show I have to strain to find something I didn't like about a particular episode. There were a couple in season four so far that weren't as tightly paced as they should have been, but I can't really say the same thing about episode 9. It was intriguing, interesting, well paced, answered/raised some great questions, and left me wanting more by the trademark cliffhanger ending.
I guess if I had to pick something I thought wasn't as great as it could have been it would be the mild frustration of not seeing anything from the freighter's point of view. I know next week we will get a mostly freighter event-centric episode to compensate but a part of me wanted to see just a snippet of it in this episode. Having said that, it's another reason for me to tune in again (not like I wasn't going to anyway).
