Fish: 13th Star

After a patchy solo career, Fish is finally back at doing what he does best. This has got to be one of his best post-Marillion releases to date. Ironically enough he has patched up his differences with the band that launched him and even plays with them at times. Anyway what you get on here is Fish at his introspective best; singing about his life. Tracks on here deal with his almost wedding and other tribulations from his life. The title track on down this a treat for Fish fanatics and those who like good folky rock both. A good spring/summer album methinks.

P.O.D.: When Angels and Serpents Dance

This lot's name lacks a certain letter in it. An L between the P and the rest of it. My god is this album dull. There is nothing here to even muster interest. It's not bad in a sense of badly played but just does not really go anywhere. I gave it several chances and just can't get into it. Then again, this is rap-metal never one of the best genres for decent music. POD fans will and are loving it but the rest of us might want to give it a miss. Boring, samey and lacking in passion.

Whitesnake: Good to be Bad

Oh yes, ole' Cov is back with a vengeance. The recent touring by the band has give him the right kick up his arse to remind him what it's all about. This album lies somewhere between the MTV ott of 1987 and the previous Saints and Sinners era. It combines the best of both eras. Foot stomping bliss from tracks like "All for Love" through the lovely cheeky title track to the balladry of "All I want All I need". Oh yes, and to end it all we have lovely blues track in the form of "Till the End of TIme". Those of you lucky enough to get the bonus CD get 3 tracks including "Take me with You" live and a video plus assorted other goodies. “Lay down your Love” indeed.

This is classy, heavy rock done at its absolute best. Coverdale on good form is just a master of his craft. Just because he has been married for a decade and is getting on a bit does not mean the master can't still teach melodic rockers everywhere how to do it right. His voice, unlike, some of the others of his age is on top form as well (bastard!). Oh yes, he can still make the ladies swoon. (Bastard x2) Anyway if you ever liked Whitesnake and though they had lost it then give this one a try. For me it gets better with even spin.

Well, that is yer lot for this week.

Fish's album is one of those few where the phrase 'major return to form' is actually appropriate. Although some of it's an uncomfortable listen if you actually know his ex.

BTW, I've just received the pre-order edition of her band's album; that's a fantastic piece of work too, and there are a couple of songs that are her response to "13th Star".
