Book Review: Twisted by Andrea Kane

Andrea Kane brilliantly blends third and first person narratives in Twisted, an edge-of-your-seat suspense novel about a serial killer. This is the first of a series involving the main character Sloan Burbank. Sloan is a former FBI agent who hooks up with her former colleagues to find a serial killer, who may be behind the disappearance of her childhood friend. Sloan finds herself working with a former love interest which causes some real heated arguments and major sexual tensions.

The story is compelling and the order of events will keep the reader hooked until the last page. My only complaint involves a hint given to the reader I feel should have been placed somewhere else in the story. The information is revealed in front of an agent known as the FBI's best guy; yet the agent doesn't pick up on it, even when the hint reveals obvious information which they discussed in a prior meeting. I kept telling myself maybe it was a false lead thrown in to confuse the reader but it wasn't. That is my only complaint, I enjoyed the characters and the way the passionate love story played out among the drama and suspense; I look forward to the sequel the author is currently working on.

Andrea Kane has written 14 historical novels and is popular in many countries. She hit the New York Times Bestseller List with her romantic thriller, Run For Your Life. She is taking her work very seriously, and her new hobby is learning how to use firearms the FBI way.

I read several books a year and I can't say I can compare Kane with anyone I've read - she has a unique style and voice. Twisted reminded me a little of a James Patterson story but that's where the comparison ends. The love scenes and violence are very detailed so this book isn't for the young or squeamish. I think Andrea Kane will appeal to a wide range of readers with her talent of blending a passionate love story with high suspense.
