TV Review: Rock the Cradle - Week 4

MTV's reality series Rock the Cradle pits the children of superstar musicians against one another to determine who has what it takes to be the next rock star. The nine original celebrity offspring featured on Rock the Cradle were:
Olivia Newton-John's daughter, Chloe Rose Lattanzi
Kenny Loggins' son, Crosby Loggins
Joe Walsh's (The Eagles) daughter, Lucy Walsh
Al B. Sure's son, Lil Al B. Sure
Dee Snider's (Twisted Sister) son, Jesse Blaze Snider
Tom Johnston's (Doobie Brothers) daughter, Lara Johnston
MC Hammer's daughter, Akeiba Burrell Hammer
Bobby Brown's son, Landon Brown.
Jesse Money was voted off after Week 1.
Akeiba Hammer was voted off after Week 2.
Lil B. Sure and Landon Brown were voted off after Week 3.
This week, parents no longer chose the songs for their children. The progeny were free to choose what they wanted to sing. Everyone sang better tonight, which confirms my hypothesis that the celebrity parents are unable to be objective about their children's vocal abilities. Left to their own devices, each person chose songs more suited to their voice than in previous weeks.
The judges are Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Go's and Jamie King. The choreographer is the stage presence judge (Brian Friedman filled in tonight). June Ambrose is the style/image judge. Larry Rudolph is the overall performance judge, and the host is Ryan Devlin.
This week the style judge, June Ambrose, attempted to help them with their image. Jess Snider's mother interfered too much for June to be able to make any impression on Jesse.
Lara Johnston sang first with "Lady Marmalade" - her voice much stronger than previous weeks. She only received 26 points total from the judges as they deemed her song "inappropriate." One judge said she had an incredible voice but mechanical dancing.
Crosby Loggins was filmed doing a music education and appreciation show for public schools. This did not seem like a publicity stunt, but something he truly is committed to doing. He sang, "Long Road to Ruin" by the Foo Fighters.
This man can sing and play the guitar. He received the highest total points from the judges at 38.5, although Larry told him there was an emotional boundary between him and the audience. His father said, "I'm just happy to see he's got the electric guitar on finally."

Looks like they are wrapping up. i know. It's pretty bad
It's a bad show, I agree. Although I am strangely fascinated, like watching a train wreck. The parents are just as goofy and stupidly proud as any one of us would be, though, which is kind of cool. Except for the parents who couldn't be bothered to stay in town for all 6 weeks of the show......... probably doesn't do that much damage to the kids, right?
You just can't try to be American Idol. Especially with mildly talented children of people who are barely celebs themselves anymore. Trying to reproduce the judges is also impossible. The wit and sarcasm belongs to Simon. Paula is a space cadet but we love her her. Sorry Freemantle you missed on this one.
Can't wait for Denise Richards new show and I hear JLo is also in the works for one. Let's stay away from music reality
Crosby's scores were a joke - he wasn't that good - he's a James Taylor type and his attempts to Rock have been weak
Call me shallow but I really think Jesse Snider has been the best by far every week

brad, I think you represent the American vote. I agree that Jesse can work a crowd. I will disagree till my last breath that he has any singing talent. He is a showman and that might just be enough to get him through.
I LOVE the "James Taylor" type. I love his personality, "June wants me to take off my shirt. But that won't get me any more voters, that's for sure." C'mon! You gotta love him, even if you wouldn't want to listen to his music.
Chloe is so misunderstood. Sigh....

You're right. I don't know why they'd invite someone who isn't a rocker to be on this show. But then again, I'm not really sure what this show is all about. It seems like karaoke night at your local bar for almost everyone. There is only one "rocker" and he can't sing. And Crosby, Chloe and Lucy need to be on a different talent show.
To be honest, I was not familiar with most of the contestants but I think MTV selected a great pool of talent . I think Crosby Loggins have the most talent in terms of vocal ability, what do you think?
