Steeling Scranton PA: Barack Will You Take This Woman to be Your Awful Vetted Vice?

I watched the pitiful "Hope and Hopeless" debate last week in Philadelphia. I watched the painful primary returns in Pennsylvania this week—now, I am not sure who gets top billing in that headline! But my reaction to the debate was simple: Barack looked handsome as he tried to defend himself against scurrilous attacks on his associates and character. Clinton looked chilly as she tried to appear human. It was not a good night for either democrat I thought. Clinton sounded hopeless with her scatter-shot replies and evasive answers.

Ever-hopeful Obama quipped “People are not going to question my patriotism!” My advice for Barack would be: “Yes, GOP-type people will question and use patriotism as a wedge issue.” I am convinced of that. Attacking puffs of anti-patriotism and quasi-elitism is what the right does best. The closeted communist is the new black. Cat calls of “commie!” were thrown against Martin Luther King, Jr. And it was enough for Bobby Kennedy to allow Hoover and the FBI (that bastion of goodness) to wiretap King and his family. It was good enough to get the Hollywood 10 a date with the Supreme Court to defend their associations.

This is what worries. But there is an illogic behind the façade of the Right. If Bush can spend the States into a deep recession over an ill-conceived war in Iraq, and he was supposed to be right wing, conservative, Republican and pro capitalism, what hope is left for the Left to sell its idea of more government intervention?

I teach at a public school. I once worked at an orthopaedic hospital where no pediatric patient paid for surgery or hospital stay. There are some fine public hospitals, fine public elected officials in the country and public libraries are a mainstay of most big cities. There are many things that the government does well. Education-fixing is not one of them. Why? Because it will go nowhere because fixing education is really about fixing when, where and how people live, work, worship and play. Legislation by the Feds of de facto neighborhood segregation would be impossible. But Federal fixing of health care for the millions of un- or under-insured is possible.Steeling the big primary:

Since Scranton is Hill country she won the state and her local area handily. Here’s a good breakdown of the primary from the New York Times. The only person who has lived in more states than Hillary is my aunt who has circumnavigated the country and lived in at least 10 states in the union.

Heloise,

Good Grief. I sure hope you turn out to be wrong. Senator Clinton generates and spews more hate than any other politician in recent memory, and if Senator Obama is serious about "hope and change," then he can have her in either the No. 1 or the No. 2 position only in the scatological sense.

I doubt that the GOP will have to stoop to silly attacks on patriotism when McCain goes up against Obama, plus I think McCain is personally disinclined to take cheap shots like that.

There are so many meatier things to go after Obama (or Clinton) on that trivial stuff will be ignored. I don't think America is desperate enough to put either of these two statist goons in the White House and McCain is going to look so reasonable and positive by comparison that he'll win in a landslide.

Heloise,

So you hate Barack Obama so much that you would write his death warrant? For surely that is what Clinton as VP will be. The Clintons learned from the murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, a murder planned through the good offices of Lyndon Baines Johnson. Put her in as VP and it is almost a certainty that Obama will be murdered in office.

A trail of blood follows Clinton wherever she or her husband go. I surely do not need to tell you that. The Clinton Chronicles deals with just what kind of people the Clintons are. Watching this, it is no surpise that blood follows the Clintons wherever they go.

For all of this, Bill Clinton was not a bad president, IMHO, when one leaves out possible murder indictments, etc. But, Bill Clinton did not have to murder a sitting president to succeed to become president.

But I do not think that Obama is so stupid to put Clinton on his ticket. I think that Obama does understand the ramifications of putting Clinton one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Of course, Heloise, since you go out on wild limbs, I'm entitled to go out on a wild one, too.

So indulge me here.

The next few paragraphs are just for the heck of it. Our (Jewish) sages say that the Redemption will mirror the Deliverance from Egypt. In other words, if we want a model of what will happen we should look to the events of the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt, the event that Passover celebrates.

According to Jim Long, who wrote the book Riddle of the Exodus Egypt was ruled by a man so short, you could step up on him as though he were a step-stool, and the record of Egyptian pharaohs shows just such a man ruling the country. Moses confronted him demanding that he allow his Hebrew slaves to vamoose. You know the story, and if you don't, you can alway pick up a Bible and read the Book of Exodus. It's all there. What you do not know is that there is an Egyptian record explaining what we Jews know of as the Ten Plagues and our escape from Egypt, but from the Egyptian point of view.

According to the Egyptian record, this little shrimp of a pharaoh rules for four years and is succeeded by a woman, which according to the Egyptians is an unmitigated disaster. After this pharaoh leaves the throne, Egypt disappears for 400 years from the historical record.

So let's say that for some reason, Obama chooses Clinton for his VP and does get elected, and like most American presidents, he is drawn to visit Israel in an attempt to impose peace on the region. As is predicted in Ezekiel 39, he dies in Israel's mountains, providing food for the vultures. And America is ruled, as was Egypt over three millennia ago, by a woman. And after this woman becomes leader, disaster ensues in America.

But the geulá shlemá, the Full Redemption, occurs for us in Israel, and the prophecies of Isaiah 60 all come true, our tribes come home, the wealth of the west comes to our shores and our exiles come home borne on the shoulders of princes. And there is a reconciliation between the Children of Israel and the Children of Ishma'el - peace at long last!!

Hey, its not such a bad thought to leave on for the Sabbath. In fact, it's a pretty cool idea.

Shabbat Shalom from the mountains of Israel,

Ruvy

Ruvy, Ruvy, Ruvy. Have you never heard of snopes.com? The thinking rumor-squasher's mecca?

That 'Clinton body-count' story has been thoroughly debunked there and elsewhere and no-one is going to take you seriously if you use it as a starting point for an argument.

Hey Ruvy you are so groovy!
Butguess what Bible or not, destiny of the nations will be played out here in the US. But I note that I too read the Bib old and new and what you leave out astounds me. What about the abomination of desolation? It predicts that Israel and the plain of Megedo will run with the blood of Jews. I am paraphrasing of course.

Luv ya
