The only story I wish hadn't been included in this book is “Rancher.” A pig dies of a heart attack while being transported to the butcher and Diane Tribitt and her friends laugh about it. I found this story offensive - an animal dying out of fear isn't funny. My brother is a cattle rancher so I understand there is a job to be done; but my brother has respect for his herd. I speak of the many role models in this book - I do not mean Diane. She tries to redeem herself by making a successful effort to save a calf but it was too-little too-late for me. The best role models are professional, intelligent and compassionate human beings. I feel compassion is missing in this particular entry.

Water Cooler Diaries is written by women, about women, but will appeal to everyone. Regardless of job title or income, some share the same concerns over finances and job security; and over half claim to be living their dream job. There are some job titles that were once considered just for men: a race car driver, aircraft mechanic, truck driver, to name a few. So many positive role models share a day in their life, some will make you wish you had tried a little harder to pursue your dreams and others will make you glad you chose a different path. With the exception of one entry, Water Cooler Diaries is an entertaining and insightful glimpse into the lives of working women; some names you will recognize, others you won't. Yet they all tell honest, sometimes funny, but always inspiring stories.
