Theater Review (New York): Chamber Music and The Day The Whores Came Out To Play Tennis
Published April 21, 2008
Assuming these plays are supposed to be saying something about ruthlessness, the narrow confines of the halls of power, and the many ways that fear freezes us in our arrogant tracks – these would seem a good choice for today. I kept wondering what they would be like with actors in the hands of capable directors.
This is a dedicated group of people who are putting on theatre because they love it and giving a shot to actors who have not made it into Equity yet, so bravo to them. But love does not a good production make - and if the slow, painful style of both productions is a trademark of this theatre company, some new blood might be in order. At the very least, they would end up shaving the running time by 15-20 minutes.
