CTV's Robson Arms Returns With Its Stealthy Charms

"We figured a lot of the audience would be quite shocked when he actually left at the end of the episode," she added. "And it's really kind of heartbreaking. But yes, his story with Bobbi is not over. "
The new owners whom Yuri rebels against include Dave Foley (The Kids in the Hall, NewsRadio) as "the happy sociopath," in Nielsen's words. He's just one of the familiar faces popping up. Joe Flaherty will be back as Hal's father, and previous guests have included Leslie Nielsen, Mark McKinney, Carly Pope, Megan Follows, and Margot Kidder.
These casting coups and its anthology-style format recently led Macleans magazine critic Jaime Weinman to say in a blog post: "The show sometimes has the feel of a Canadian Love Boat, a place where you can have the fun of seeing people you recognize."
"We've been compared to Robert Altman, Chaucer, Arrested Development, which I thought was very interesting, but Love Boat? That's a new one," Nielsen laughed.
She does admit: "It's certainly been one of our goals from the very beginning of the show to use Robson Arms as a bit of a showcase as well for a lot of Canadian talent, both unfamiliar faces and then very familiar faces as well."
One of those familiar faces is Gabrielle Miller, also well known for her role in Corner Gas. Despite that double duty, her character Bobbi, a struggling new mother, will play a prominent role in season three in what Harvey calls "a lovely arc."
Nielsen offered a small taste of what's to come in Bobbi's poignant but humorous journey: "She has to face her arch-nemesis Sasha, the woman that boy-Bobby [girl-Bobbi's ex] was having an affair with. So Sasha makes a return appearance."
Catch up with Bobbi and the other tenants of Robson Arms in the Bravo marathon this weekend before season three starts Monday, April 28 at 9:30 p.m. on CTV.
