Fired Washington Post Writer a.k.a. NFL Blogger "Christmas Ape" To Speak On BC Sports Treehouse Fort

Michael Tunison wrote for the Washington Post — that is, until two days after he outed himself on his other writing gig at the NFL humor blog Kissing Suzy Kolber. He posted a picture of himself two years ago celebrating his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers winning the Super Bowl, describing himself as "totally fucking hammered," then shared with his KSK readers that he was fired from the Post and escorted out by security.

Yesterday afternoon the story was picked up by Editor and Publisher, who reported that Post editors allow outside work, including blogging. (This is accurate, because Alex Remington, who appears on the Treehouse Fort on Mondays, also works at the Post and blogs at the Huffington Post and the Braves blog Chop-N-Change, and they have no problem with it.) And E&P's look at the Post's stylebook found two items:

"We work for no one except The Washington Post without permission from supervisors. Many outside activities and jobs are incompatible with the proper performance of work on an independent newspaper."
And:
"Our private behavior as well as our professional behavior must not bring discredit to our profession or to The Post."
It's safe to say that Tunison's work at KSK is, at times, lewd and contained some racist humor.

So now what's in store for Christmas Ape? Tunison will join us tonight on a special 90-minute edition of the BC Sports Treehouse Fort, BC Magazine's official sports radio show on BlogTalkRadio, at 8 p.m. EST, hosted by BC Sports editors Matt Sussman and Tuffy.

Also on the show: Goathair from the NBA blog The Blowtorch will come by to talk NBA playoffs, which begin tomorrow, and as always Charlie Doherty will provide his "What Were They Thinking" segment, highlighting the best in the week of the worst lapses in judgment in the world of sports.

And now, you can vote on the "What Were They Thinking?" winner! Go to the BC Sports main page and vote for who you think made the stupidest action/comment of the last seven days.

Matt SussmanMatt Sussman is the former sports editor of BC Magazine and also writes for Deadspin, SPORTSbyBROOKS, The Futon Report, and the Toledo Free Press. Catch him with Tuffy on Treehouse Fort, the official show of BC Sports.
