Have no fear good townsfolk, for SpongeBuck SquarePants, cowboy ancestor to SpongeBob Squarepants, is here to save Dead Eye Gulch from the dreaded Dead Eye Plankton. SpongeBob Squarepants: Pest Of The West is the new DVD from Nickelodeon. It includes six regular episodes and one double length episode, the title episode "Pest Of The West."

If you don't have children, you may have missed out on the phenomenon that is SpongeBob. He is a star on the Nickelodeon circuit and hugely popular with kids and parents. The show itself is very silly, funny, and clever. The marketing aspects alone must be worth billions, what with everything from toothpaste to underwear covered by the square pants wearing sponge.

The feature episode of this DVD finds our hero saddened that everyone he knows has a famous ancestor. To find out about his past, SpongeBob and Sandy the Squirrel head down to the library to see what they can find.

In an old dusty archive, they dig up a reference to a SpongeBuck Squarepants, who saved the town of Dead Eye Gulch from a villain called Dead Eye. In gratitude, the town had a solid gold statue made for SpongeBuck. The rest of the episode is dedicated to telling the story of SpongeBuck.

After we watched it together, my five-year-old daughter asked if we had a famous ancestor. I told her I didn't know so she decided we needed to go to the library to find out.

If you have kids, you already know about SpongeBob, and you're probably already getting this DVD. If you don't have kids or don't watch Nickelodeon, this is a good DVD to get to find out what all the hype is about. You won't be disappointed.

The DVD contains seven episodes, including a double-length episode:

1. Pest of the West
2. Banned in Bikini Bottom
3. Stanley S. SquarePants
4. Pat No Pay
5. The Two Faces of Squidward
6. 20,000 Leagues under the sea
7. The Inmates of Summer
