Alvin and The Chipmunks Go to the Movies is a compilation of three different stories that are similar to famous movies from the 1980's.

Funny, We Shrunk the Adults is based on the 1987 movie, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. In this story, Simon creates a shrinking machine. Dave asks Alvin, Simon, and Theodore to clean the house because he has invited the new neighbors over for dinner. When Dave leaves, Alvin spots the attractive new girl next door and invites her and her two brothers over.

In an attempt to impress her, he exaggerates all the toys he has and how much of a mess he is allowed to make of the house. She in turn invents stories of all the cool things she had at her former house. They make a gigantic mess of the house.

When Dave and the neighbor's babysitter come home, they are shrunk. The adventure of cleaning the house and trying to find Dave is a fun story. However, my favorite part of this episode is when the Chipmunks sing, "Short People."

Bigger is based on the 1988 Tom Hanks film, Big. Alvin gets frustrated being told he is too young to drive and that his musical group "The Furballs" is too youthful a sound. "Come back in 10 years" , he's told by a producer.

Much like in the movie Big, Alvin finds a magic jukebox and wishes himself grown up. He gets a job as a record producer with all the rewards and headaches therein. He eventually misses his friends, family, and the freedom of being a child and wishes himself back. The moral of the story is bigger is not necessarily better.

Back to Our Future is based on the 1985 movie, Back to the Future. The Chipmunks discover that the Alvin from 1957 loses interest in singing and is considering changing careers to either accounting or laundering. In the present time, their album cover begins to fade, so Alvin, Simon, and Theodore travel to the past to convince Past Alvin to continue with his career.

A battle of the past and future Chipmunks ensues. It is a fun copy of the movie Back to the Future, but I had trouble understanding how 40 years into the future they remained eight-years-old.

Funny, We Shrunk the Adults, Bigger, and Back to Our Future are clever, adventurous stories. They are suitable for children and adults of all ages who enjoy the antics and music of Alvin and The Chipmunks.
