Nick News With Linda Ellerbee: Election Issues '08 Premieres Sunday, April 13, at 9:00 P.M.

When I was little, I would always ask my father to explain things to me in "Kid Language." I just wanted the TV to speak in kid language, not with words like "vapid" and "facetious." (Neither of what I can tell you the definition of; I simply asked my twin sister for two really unusual words. Vocabulary is not my strong suit.) I would watch the news, but I wouldn't understand. I knew that the terrorists were "bad guys," but other than that, nothing really made sense. I was subjected to agreeing with whatever my parents said. And now, really when I think about it, I wish I would've formed my own opinions after reviewing the facts. I tended to look like a real idiot when I got my mouth going without any evidence to back it up.

This is exactly why I love Nickelodeon for explaining the issues to kids in "Kid Language" during the Nick News With Linda Ellerbee: Election Issues ’08 special Sunday, April 13, at 9:00 P.M. I really wish I had something like this to watch when I was nine. It would have saved me from a lot of embarrassment.

The show tackles a lot of issues close to children including: the war in Iraq, terrorism, the economy, education, the environment, healthcare, and immigration. It will include differing kids' opinions on special issues. Such as Lydia who says, “The next president should continue to support our troops in Iraq and to try to continue this stabilization of Iraq and creating a more democratic government,” Whereas Ashley says, “We should get out of Iraq before things get even worse than they already are." I hope this ensures that the show will not lean left or right. It seems fair.

This show is apart of Nickelodeon's Kids Pick the President program, where kids participate in a mock election. Kids have already chosen who won the primary (Obama and McCain) and this special is geared to help them decide when the real (mock) election takes place.

I really encourage all kids to watch this special. Believe me, when you're in high school like me, it's going to help to know this.

I thank you so much for the kind words about our show. One small note: We WERE on the air when you were nine. Sorry we didn't connect back then.

Best regards,

Linda Ellerbee
