Amber Rubarth "Another Perfect Sunset"

Amber Rubarth is a self-taught guitarist who just a few years ago decided she was going to be a musician. However, before learning enough guitar to get up on stage, Amber spent some time as a wood carver. Yes, you read that right...a wood carver.

Says, Amber: "Before graduating high school, I was riding my bike through Tahoe and saw a little flyer blowing from a nail on a tree that said "wood sculpture apprenticeship." I thought "Wow, I would much rather do that than college!" - the brilliance of a 17 year-old. So, I dropped the idea of college and moved to Carson City, Nevada to learn to use a chainsaw..." However, after a few years Amber put down the chainsaw and picked up a guitar.

Judging from her music and the response to it, I say it was a wise move. Amber has a naturally personable and connecting songwriting style that the Boston Globe says will make you "leave with a crush on her." Currently on tour in Europe, Amber returns to the States later this month to gear up for a series of shows in support of her forthcoming record New Green Lines (Sounden/Ryko).

Here on her first offering (of several!) for our Sun Studio Sessions series Amber sings "Another Perfect Sunset" accompanied by Adam Levy (who we'll see on his own upcoming Sun Session) along with Alex Wong (who also joined Vienna Teng for her soon to air Sun Session) in front of a small audience of friends who we squeezed in on the studio floor. In addition to a great performance, Amber gives some insight into the song and how she wrote it in Italy on a songwriting retreat led by Chris Dipford of Squeeze - check it out!
