At the moment all of my book excitement has been going into one book. Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, the fourth and final book in Meyer’s young adult vampire series. I can hardly think of anything else. The series comes to an end August 2nd and I am full of trepidation. How will it end? I don’t know and like millions of other readers I am dying to find out.  

Of course Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series isn’t the only thing she’s put her name to. Her first dip into the adult realm will hit shelves in May with The Host. But reviews are already starting to surface, fellow Blogcritic Karin Perry says “Stephenie Meyer may have done for science fiction what she did for fantasy when she wrote Twilight. The Host is set in enough of a realistic setting that even people who aren’t sci-fi fans will enjoy this story. You’ll want to put this on in your to-be-read-again pile.” I know I can’t wait.

Speaking of aliens, have you read Deep Inside by Polly Frost? Yes, the rumors you’ve heard are true. It’s science fiction erotica, but don’t let that stop you (if tentacles intimidate you) because there are a lot of other stories worth checking out. I recently read Deep Inside and it’s the kind of book that sticks with you. I don’t know whether it is the ‘Ick’ factor or the fact that Frost pushes you across boundaries you never knew you had but it is certainly unforgettable.

So what’s worth checking out if you aren’t into vampires (shame on you, by the way) or aliens?  

Phillip Pullman has another addition to the His Dark Materials saga coming out this week. Once Upon a Time in the North is “the very first meeting of those two legends and friends Lee Scoresby, the Texan balloonist, and Iorek Brynison, the armored bear.” The book is only 112 pages long but makes up in length by including a board game titled Peril of the Pole.

In May Laurell K. Hamilton will deliver another Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novel with Blood Noir, the 16th book in the series. The fans are already leaving reviews on the Barnes and Noble site; it seems as if you love her or you hate her, rabid sex scene included. At least no one is ambivalent. And if you don’t want to wait for those upcoming releases here are some that are already ready to be loved. Wrath of a Mad God: Book Three of the Darkwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist is out in all it’s almost 500 page glory. The Outlaw Demon Wails by Kim Harrison is out and you can read a review from fellow Blogcritic Lisa Damian and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss has finally made it to paperback and you can read Richard Marcus’ review from Blogcritics as well.
