Movie Media: 101 Dalmations, The Signal, Doomsday, The Love Guru, Blindsight, Step Brothers, Arthur and the Vengeance of Maltazard
Published February 29, 2008
Welcome back to the Movie Media column featuring trailers, posters, and clips for upcoming films. Some are nice and fresh, and some aren't. However, they all have something in common: for better or worse, they all caught my attention. If there is a poster or trailer you think I should check out, be sure to let me know.
This week's movie goodies include trailers and posters for an upcoming DVD release, a horror flick with three directors, a documentary, a sequel, and more!
101 Dalmations - DVD Trailer
This is a bona fide Disney classic. Period. There is no denying that, and the new Platinum Edition is sure to be a must-have DVD, as most of these releases are. You are probably wondering why I am spotlighting this trailer. Let me tell you, the first fifty seconds are fantastic; they paint the film as a creepy thriller. I have no idea why it was cut like this, but it is really effective.
The Signal - Poster, Trailer
I've been hearing good things about this for some time. I have to say I eagerly look forward to the opportunity to see it. That said, I do get a bit of a Pulse-like vibe from it. This does seem to be a bit more intimate and violent, but the vibe is similar. People's televisions turn on and the signal causes them to randomly kill. I can't wait!
Here is an intriguing little tease:
Doomsday - Poster, Trailer
What do you get when you cross 28 Days Later with The Road Warrior? My guess would be something along the lines of Doomsday. When a virus ravages England, the infected are rounded up and placed in a walled off community where they remain, separate from the rest of the country and the world for 25 years.
The problem is that the virus reappears outside the wall and a team must venture inside the lawless realm inside the wall looking for a cure. Looks like fun to me, if a little derivative. I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt because it is directed by Neil Marshall, the man behind Dog Soldiers and The Descent. The cast is led by Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins, and Malcolm McDowell.
