TV Review: Survivor Micronesia - Surviving the Battle
Published February 22, 2008
Okay, after tonight’s episode, I’m angry! I’d love to rant about why, but that would give away the ending too early, so I'll hold back on my ranting until the end.
The episode began with the fans coming back from tribal council. Mary had been voted out and Mikey didn't like it at all. He made the connection that Joel must have been the mastermind behind the scheme and confronted him. Joel seemed little more than amused at Mikey’s whining, and the more I watched, the more I liked Joel. I just don’t like Mikey all that much. It’s that same feeling I got from Boston Rob during All Stars. I didn’t like him at all.
Meanwhile, over at the favorites' camp, the combination alliance of Ozzy, Amanda, James, and Parvati invited Eliza to join them around the fire. The mingling led to strategizing when Ozzy suggested that Yau-man be the first to leave. Eliza seemed to just ignore the other tribe, deciding to keep her alliance with Jonathan, Ami, and Yau-man strong.
When they got their tree mail, both tribes received paint, a survivor catalog, and a letter stating that they would be fighting against each other. Their reward would consist of their three choices from the survivor catalog. They all painted their faces and bodies in order to get ready for the upcoming war. Okay good, I was wrong. They only did combined immunity and reward challenges for the first couple weeks. That’s good, because I was going through withdrawal; I’ve gotta have both my challenges.
Both teams arrived and the favorites were shocked to see that the fans had voted Mary out. Jeff got right down to business. Each team had a side of the field and some tribe members had a bag. Tribe members had to fight against each other (all at the same time) to get the bags from the other team and to put them in their end-zone. They were allowed to steal the bags from the other survivors and the opposing end-zone. The first tribe to get five bags won a reward.
This was increasingly fun to watch. I grimaced a couple times when Eliza got thrown on her head, or when James head-butted someone. Still, the challenge was entertaining, especially when the favorites, who were originally behind, stole back their bags and managed to win the reward. Their choices from the catalog were a shelter-building kit (that included a tarp), a lighting kit, and a survival kit.
