Music Review: Anne Murray Duets - Friends and Legends

Superstar Shania Twain joins Murray on one of Anne’s standards, “You Needed Me.” The track is a surprisingly enjoyable call-and-response style duet and Twain holds her own with her quality tone on a song that she picked to sing. Murray sings with her daughter, Dawn Langstroth, on “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” and shows that talent certainly runs in the family. Shelby Lynne and Murray take on “You Won’t See Me” next and the results are a Beatles cover that is among the best of all Beatles covers.

Amy Grant joins Anne on “Could I Have This Dance,” a swaying adult contemporary tune that was originally recorded for the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. The Indigo Girls are up on “A Little Good News,” a song with powerful lyrics. One of Anne’s greatest hits, “Snowbird,” is split between Murray and Sarah Brightman, who accentuates the track with her classical sounds. It’s interesting to hear a singer like Brightman on this track and she doesn’t disappoint.

“When I Fall In Love” is a live track with Celine Dion that captures the first take of the duet with precision, proving the professionalism of both women. The French tune, “Si Jamais Je Te Revois” closes out the disc on a nice note, as one of French Canada’s leading voices, Isabelle Boulay, joins Anne to close out the album.

Anne Murray Duets: Friends and Legends should offer the Anne Murray fan a tender trip back in time. It certainly played out like a classic record for me, as many of the tunes were ingrained in my head from my early years as a young Canadian boy in a home that, for better or worse, seemed to play Anne Murray more than anyone or anything else.

Nice review Jordan. Your Mom would be proud.

P.S. Is it just me or his Anne had a little work done on her face?

Anne has not had any work done to her face. She is just a natural beauty.
Saw her a few days ago, was able to talk to her and have a picture taken with her.

Anne's healthy youthful looks come from her mom.
Anne's mom was beautiful at 92 and looked like she was 70. Anne has said her good looks come from all that cold Canadian air and good genes.

Most CD photo's are air-brushed.

Say what you will about the songs that you like on Anne's new CD " Duets " but to me the song that has so much precios emotion in it from start to finish is " When I Fall In Love " with Celne Dion, that song will send you to cloud nine and leep you there, the emotion expressed there in that song from those two girls can not be matched anywhere.
Thank you, Bill

The show should have be entitled Anne Murray and Talking Heads. She sang about four or five song during the hour and the rest was taken by her and her "friend" chattering. It was one big ad for new album. I was ever disappointed.
