George Lucas surprised us all this week when he announced that the much anticipated CG television series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, will be introduced with a full length feature film in theaters this August.

Set to premiere in wide release August 15, 2008, The Clone Wars follows the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu and others in the timeline between Episodes 2 and 3 of the Star Wars saga. The movie will re-introduce us to the characters we know and reveal the new legends in the Star Wars universe, notably Anakin's new padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

Originally hyped a couple of years ago by George Lucas as a groundbreaking computer generated (CG) television series, he has decided to launch it with all the grandeur of a proper Star Wars movie. Following the movie's theatrical run, the actual series will kick off in the fall season on the Cartoon Network with TNT re-airing the broadcasts at a later date.

This is incredible news for any Star Wars fan — we have a new movie, an actual Lucas-produced CG series on television, and to top it off, it looks amazing. The look is unique and just seems to fit the series. I know some will hate it, but this fan is liking the look they have developed.

Lucas has promised that each week we will see a 30 minute mini-movie that pulls you into the Star Wars universe and leaves you wanting more. Let's hope he delivers on this promise and we see many great seasons of the show. Now if we could only hear about the live action Star Wars show he promised...
