Rock and Roll: Resurrection or Reanimation? (My Belated 2007 Top Ten List)
Published January 28, 2008
8) Dwight sings Buck - when hard twang country sounds better than some of what gets passed off as rock, that's about the time to hang up your blue suede shoes and go buy some nice western boots.
7) Bruce Springsteen releases Magic - nothing dead about this album, but it sure makes you wonder where all the other writers of Bruce's calibre have disappeared.
6) mp3 downloads - yeah, yeah I know - they're killing the industry. But that's maybe not such a bad thing?
5) Led Zeppelin reunion - they didn't embarass themselves, but Page looks old, Plant looks grizzled, and Jones looked like someone else.
4) Eagles' first new album in nearly 30 years - sounds just like the Eagles, so it depends how much you used to love/hate them back in the '70s.
3) Some foreign film called Linda Linda Linda - let's see... as far as I remember, a film (that came out in 2005, not 2007 - but that's when I saw it) about a Japanese all-girl high school punk band that dresses like Sailor Moon and does a cover of the Blue Hearts' Linda Linda. And rocks harder than 99% of 2007 - go fig.
2) Madonna gets nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - I could have accepted her getting into a Pop Hall of Fame, but not the... ah, whatever. The Pistols wanted no part of it either.
1) No Guns 'n' Roses tour - well, it leaves hope open for bigger things in 2008 if nothing else. I mean, it's not like the Beatles are ever going to be getting back together - ever.

although I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the overall downturn of the traditional downturn of the traditional record biz (actually I guess Radiohead and MP3's kinda cover that though)...
...Damn! And I call myself an editor? I'll take that next beer now, barkeep...

Downturn of the biz I thought was a given nowadays. All those slackers that used to start rock and roll bands stay home and play super wii box or whatever they call it.
Chinese Democracy is Axl's Smile. It'll come out in 20 more years and it'll be praised because it's good to hear something after all that time but really it won't measure up to the groups best.
And, yeah, there will be a Beatles reunion. But the living aren't going to see it.
As for the "final year-end list" as the front page says, I have a feeling there may be one more coming very soon . . .
Chinese Democracy will be Smile? I can only imagine what Axl's equivalent of Vegetables will be like: "I'm gonna eat some moah vegetables.... mohwaaah, mohwaaah, mohwaaah, yeeeaaaaaahhhhooooo!"

Well Skeet, you managed to hit on most of the hot spots and low points, although I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the overall downturn of the traditional downturn of the traditional record biz (actually I guess Radiohead and MP3's kinda cover that though)...
Pssssst... by the way, I hate to break this to you, but the GNR thing aint ever gonna happen. Besides, without Slash, whats the point??
