Music Review: Tift Merritt - Another Country

Come February 26th, I have a feeling that Tift Merritt will rise in country music circles and we'll be hearing her name along side Martina McBride and Tim McGraw. Her music's fun and is similar to Taylor Swift, one of my favorites. It isn't that stereotypical bad country music (Think my dog died and I married my pick-up truck); the kind everyone makes fun of. No, it's not like that at all. Tift Merritt's new CD comes out February 26th. She is also going on tour starting March 17th, so be on the lookout.

"Something to Me" is a great way to start off an album. Her voice is innocent and absolutely beautiful. This song should definitely attract attention to this CD.

"Broken" is a great song. The chorus of this song is one of the best on the album. Her lyrics, which Tift wrote, are extremely powerful and don't follow the 'Oh my God, he cheated on me' junk. There's only so long one can stand that without getting a headache. There are similes in this song. Oh, my English teacher would be so proud. And, yes, as much as it pains me to admit defeat to the dreaded school system, the similes do make the song more powerful.

"Another Country" better be good, since it's the name of the album, right? It's not the best. "Another Country" is, however, one of my favorites. It is a good name for an album. A lot of people dealing with families overseas for the war will really admire this song. It's very touching.

"Morning Is My Destination" seems a lot more country than a lot of her other songs. Thankfully, it's not the dog-died type of music. Now, if it was, this song wouldn't have a prayer to be within five feet of my computer. It's average — it's better than a lot of her songs, but not the best.

"Keep You Happy" is one of her slower songs. It's one of those songs that I can close my eyes during and float off to a happy place. It's a song that I want to stop what I'm doing and just listen to. It's like I just took a timeout from my hectic schedule juggling finals and friends and listened to it. "Keep You Happy" definitely kept me happy. Ok, that's a lame sentence. It kept me calm and enjoying life.
