Music Review: The Click Five - Modern Minds and Pastimes
Published January 14, 2008
Like I said before, the band styled their music on their heroes. The track "Addicted to Me" has synthesizer in it and is very reminiscent of early Duran Duran and Devo. There are rifts that remind me of the classical rock songs that you play on Guitar Hero. The music altogether reminds me of '70s - '80s with a bit of modern pop rock flavoring. The combination makes for a pleasant musical experience. The album delivers a fresh range of songs, besides your love songs, there are songs about trouble, getting over someone, generally to get your blood jumping, anthems, and ballads.
One of these anthems is "Jenny", which has gained a strong following since the arrival of the record. I'm a fickle being, but their music satisfies my every whim. Like a good glass of wine, with each sip comes a surprisingly new burst of flavor, and I do like my wines.
Even though you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, the band getup reminds of The Beatles and The Who. Very clean cut, uniform, though the guys do add their own personal something to the outfits, sort of like their music. So if you're a planning on a trip down memory lane or want to play "Name that Beat", I find that The Click Five done a wonderful job connecting the old with the new. Don't dismiss Modern Minds and Pastimes thinking it is exactly like the '70s because true to pop rock, that is exactly what Click Five delivers. With that, I'm going go to google some disco polo songs. Catch you all on the "Flipside".
