To Browns Fans, From A Steelers Fan: Better Luck Next Year

Understand this: I am a diehard Steeler fan. That's how my Daddy raised me. He lived in Pittsburgh. Any Steeler fan knows that the Cleveland and Pittsburgh don't get along. Although, there are teams that I hate much more than the Browns, they are our true enemies. In fact, the Steelers were a part of the original NFL before they merged with the AFL. When they merged with the AFL, the NFL wanted the Steelers to move to the AFC. The Steelers wouldn't go unless the Browns went with them. It is a great rivalry. In a way, we are alike. Steelers fans and Browns fans are very obsessed devoted to their respective teams. Devoted sounds better. Come on, at the Super Bowl, the Seahawks were overshadowed 17:1. That's just sad.

For years, the Browns sucked. I didn't care. That just gave the Steelers a better chance to win the division. They had to deal with the Ratbirds (Ravens) and the Bungals (Bengals). So, this year I was psyched that Pittsburgh was playing the Browns on opening day. It was an easy win and a great way to start an opening season. But then... I realized. The Browns looked good. I turned to my Dad, "Daddy, what is wrong here? Why are the Browns good? Daddddddddddddy!" I whined.

The Browns continued to get good. I was headed to Pittsburgh the second time we played the Browns this season. I was looking at a couple colleges in Pittsburgh, so we got to go the game too. I was nervous. I was never nervous about a Browns game. Come on. They were the frickin' Browns.

The Steelers should have lost. They played like crap. Our kicker, Jeff Reed, kicked a ball to the one-yard line and their Pro Bowl punt returner, Josh Cribbs, returned it for a touchdown. That was just embarrassing. Somehow, someway, the Steelers won. Actually, it was really creepy. This wasted guy came over to our seats and showed us this really old Terrible Towel with all these famous Steelers' from the 70s autographs, and literally right after that we started winning. Then, he left, and we started losing again. He came back, thankfully. The point was Cleveland should have won that game. They dominated and we were outplayed.

The Steelers finished 10-6. The Browns finished 10-6. We got in. They didn't. All because of that one game. The point is Cleveland should have been the champs. Not the Steelers. This really kills a Steelers fan. Our team is very talented, but so was theirs.

I was secretly wishing the Browns would get in, so we could play them again. Of course, the Titans beat Indy. I felt bad for the Browns, mainly, because Indy probably would have won if they were playing Manning. I don't blame Indy though. If Manning got hurt, Indy could not win the Super Bowl.

So, to any Cleveland fans, I'm sorry. A lot of other Steelers fans also send their regrets. One Steeler fan (Preacher) wrote, "We used to get excited when the Browns came, because we could see our team work out some things... and still win. That sure isn't true anymore. Any team that doesn't bring their game... will be in for one heck of a surprise next year!"

Congrats on a great year. Can't wait for next season. Finally, this rivalry has some spice!

Maddy,
Hey - there are a lot of Cleveland fans that feel the same way you do - I guess it is kind of a love/hate relationship. Pittsburg has been the better team for awhile now - but we are finally ready to challenge you for the AFC North title. Heres to some good games coming up next season. Hopefully we will win one of the games next year. Also - as a true Browns fan - Go JAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maddy, I'm old enough to be your grandfather. I remember when the Steelers were the doormat of football and the Browns were king. After last nights fiasco, I really needed a pat on the back like that. Thanks, kid, you are wise beyond your years. WOOF,WOOF
