Life Sucks No More! 2008 is Your New Beginning

Okay, cut the crap! No more sob stories. No more pity parties. No more bouts of depression. Proclaim that 2008 is your year. Your season. Your light at the end of the tunnel. Your raisin in the sun moment. All you have hoped, dreamed and imagined will manifest this year. In 2008, there will be no excuses, only strategies. This is the year you pour every ounce of your being into becoming The (ideal) Being that lives in your head. If you've got stinkin' thinkin', get rid of it. This year, your outside will match your inside. Stop allowing what's holding you back to hold you back!

The Bible clearly warns as a man thinketh, he beliveth and eventually becometh. What negativity or untruths swimming in your head (some since childhood) separate you from your ideal self? What type of mindless chatter going on in your head is putting a boulder between you and your life's passion? Think about the harsh criticisms and negativity you batter upon yourself. Would you allow someone else to treat you like that? Hell no! If anyone else criticized, devalued or relegated you, the way you've done yourself for years, you'd call them everything but Mary, mother of Jesus.

I hear your brain cylinders clicking. I already hear those nonsensical voices in your head. They're saying, "I wanna change, but you don't understand my situation," or "I wanna change, but you don't know what kind of childhood I've had," and the best one ever, "You haven't walked a mile in my shoes."

My response to each: "You're right," but what do those excuses have to do with why you can't get the most out of each day ahead of you? Remember, we're not talking about what's behind you, 2008 is about what's in front of you - your future!

Replace those excuse-laced base responses, criticisms, and negative voices in your head with an affirmation that cancels them out. Instead of your usual "Life Sucks" commentary, try "Life Sucks No More!" Just try it! Start the day with the mindset that you are going to replace every negative word you utter or thought that goes against the grain of your life's quest with the words, "Life Sucks No More!"

Nice advice.

But you don't understand my situation.

Just kidding! I'm totally ready for a rockin' 2008. My number 1 goal is to not be boy obsessed. Boys ruin your mind, really. This year is all about my personal growth.

I go back to school Monday with all the boys. Think that's gonna last long?

Doubtful.

Maddy,

If you wish to make a resolution like yours last for more than a few hours (or a few minutes - I was once a hormone crazed teenager who was obsessed with girls), tell yourself that you can do something for one hour that you would find yourself refusing to do for a day or a week. That is the secret to success with these things. Break down the amount of time you need to succeed to the smallest increment your mind will handle, and then succeed, one time increment at a time. You only need to succeed one increment at a time, no more. Then you work on the next time increment.

That's how drunks try to sty dry, how overweight women try to stop the obsessive eating, how gamblers stay away from the tables and bets. Sometimes, with G-d's help, they even succeed.
