The New England Patriots Suck
Published December 25, 2007
I hate the New England Patriots. I think that's obvious by now. But, unlike most sports fans, I don't hate them just because they are statistically "the best team." I mean, if they are the best team, why don't we just cancel the season? Why not just hand them the Superbowl rings, huh? I know why. The reason we shouldn't is that they don't deserve it.
The New England Patriots get lucky. They get lucky all the time. There must be someone up in heaven rooting for them. (I think it may be my Uncle Pepi, a priest and long-time Patriots fan who died in August). Regardless, the Patriots have won a lot of games they should have lost. May we please refer to the Patriots vs. Ravens game on Monday, December 3rd?
Everyone thought the game would be a bore. The Ravens had lost five straight and were no match for the undefeated Patriots, who were 19-point favorites. Why even bother watching? The Patriots did win, 27-24, but the Ravens outplayed them. Oh, indeed, they did. The Ravens had 166 rushing yards vs. the Patriots' 90. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots were down 24-17. Only a late touchdown with 44 seconds left in the game saved them. The thing that hurt the Ravens? The ref's bogus calls. Even Mr. Brady admitted, "We made enough plays at the end. A lot of questionable calls and we made some plays." Even I, a Steeler fan and therefore a division rival, felt sorry for the Ravens.
Earlier this year, the Patriots were caught cheating. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell charged them with videotaping the New York Jets' play signals. The Jets say they had suspected the cheating for years. Do the Patriots lose their Superbowl titles? Nope. And, oh yeah, the Patriots still got the "win" against the Jets, keeping their undefeated season going. Head coach Bill Belichick was fined half a million dollars. The team was fined a quarter million, and lost a first round draft pick.
And, yet, they still go undefeated. The other teams can't seem to catch a break.
Then there was the "Snowplow Game." To the Patriots, it's a game to go down in history. To everyone else, it's another example of the Patriots cheating. It was in 1982, between the Patriots and the Miami Dolphins. It was snowing like crazy and the game was still scoreless in the fourth quarter. Mark Henderson was on the snowplow, and he helped the Patriots cheat. He was told to steer off course and clear a spot on the field for placekicker John Smith. Because of him, the Patriots were able to score a field goal. The next year, the NFL actually changed the rules to ban snowplows to prohibit the Patriots from cheating again.
And the sick part? The Patriots are actually proud of it. They are actually building a hall of fame to celebrate it. Kill me.
The way I see it, the Patriots should be stripped of any dignity they think they might have. Take away their Superbowls, I don't care. Take away their perfect record. Because I think if they win the Superbowl again, I might puke.

Bogus call? You mean the defensive holding call where the replay clearly showed that there was defensive holding? The only bogus call was the time-out by the Ravens coaching staff. You can't win games if the coaches aren't 100% in it like the Patriots' coaches always are.
"Because I think if they win the Superbowl again, I might puke."
Sweet, I hope you have a bucket ready.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am definitely a proud Patriots fan
Maddy, I appreciate your honesty here, but just for the record, there weren't a lot of game the Patriots "should have lost." That Baltimore Ravens game was the only one they did just about lose - but as luck would have it, the Ravens called a timeout just prior to what was looking like a fatal Patriots fourth down play late in the game. Brady took advantage of that new life...and the rest was history.
The only other games that were really close or somewhat close were the Colts, Jets, and Philly Eagles games, but the Pats certainly earned those victories, by playing their best football late in each game.
And about Spygate, remember (and track down the official statement) that Roger Goodell determined that the New England Patriots broke NFL rules, NOT that they "cheated."
I wonder if the Jets are going to lose a draft pick or big money for videotaping the Patriots during last year's playoff game! They apparently lied and said they got permission to videotape the game from one of the endzones because no one in the Patriots camp verified that claim.
My point is that BOTH teams videotaped each other, and if you think they are the only teams that have done this in recent years, you (meaning everybody) are naive.
What the Patriots were guilty of was ignorance or arrogance, not cheating. Instead of videotaping from somewhere in the stands, press box level or end zone area with permission from the opposition, the Patriots just went ahead and faced the tape toward the Jets defense coaches.
And all they got was about a half quarter's worth of the game. It just wasn't worth the effort, in the end and the Pats got harsh punishment because of it. Besides, with several Jets coaches acting as decoys and the Patriots not knowing which coach is calling the real signals, any value from this videotape would've been redeemed long after the game finished because NFL rules state that the videotaper can't be anywhere near his team's staff during the game.
Even then, what the Pats learned (or would have learned had they taped that Jets game in full) would likely have been useless during the late season rematch, since any smart, professional team changes their signals throughout the season (like MLB teams do, especially if they suspect opposing teams stealing their signs).
In other words, you don't automatically gain any competitive advantage from videotaping the opposition, even if it's for coaching and game-studying purposes (which is what I believe the Pats, Jets and any other team does this for).
Like I said, the so-called "Spygate" wasn't worth the cost to the Pats (losing a #1 draft pick, which is unprecedented), but they've long since put that incident in the past and proved they didn't need no stinkin' sideline videotape to succeed. Love 'em or hate 'em, this is a very special and historic run the Patriots are on, and (knock on wood) hopefully they will keep it that way for the rest of the season.
You know you really don't make a very good case, in that you just come off whiney on this one.
Someone just needs to beat them. Sounds like you're just angry since no one has been able to do thus so far(and not like to for a while). If no one can beat them all year, then they are the best. Simple, really simple.
Stop the hate and participate. You're watching history unfold before your eyes on so many levels, don't miss it with your hate glasses on. Sit back grab a beer and enjoy it for all it's splendor.
"that Roger Goodell determined that the New England Patriots broke NFL rules, NOT that they "cheated." "
Deliberately breaking rules is cheating.
But the penalty was a fine and loss of a draft pick. Roger Goodell's series punishments have proven to be far from consistent, but he calls 'em as he sees 'em. If someone thinks the Patriots should have lose the game against the Jets, Goodell's the man that person should be pissed at.
Ron--
I'm upset that the Pats think they are so great, when they are great, because they are built on lies.
I forgot when they cheated in the Tuck game.
Oh, and I'm sixteen. No beers for me. Just cream soda. :)
Maddy,
While "spygate" will always be a footnote (mostly for haters) to the Patriots unprecedented season, it isn't a reason for them not to be written into the history books nor is it a reason to justify losing. Mangini blew the whistle on a practice that many coaches, players, and officials have admitted doing for years. Mangini took personal knowledge from having worked under Bill Belichick's tutelage. Mangini's whistle blowing smacked of desperation. Should the Patriots have videotaped? No. Are they the only team to have done such a thing? No. Are other teams still doing it? There is a good chance.
Good calls, bad calls, luck, spygate, the direction of the wind, and the correct seasoning to the chicken strips at Gillette have nothing to do with the level of play that the team has brought each week. Has it appeared more than once that the Patriots would, could, should lose a game? Yes, but they always reach deep within themselves and pull out the effort it takes to overcome and win.
Love the Patriots or hate the Patriots there is something to be said for not only the athletic talent on the field, but the intelligence of all involved.
Another jealous football fan heard from....
I'm upset that the Pats think they are so great, when they are great, because they are built on lies.
I forgot when they cheated in the Tuck game.
Maddy, Maddy, come on now, there was no cheating in the "Tuck Rule" game either. Maybe you were too young when the "Tuck rule" game between the Pats and Raiders happened, but the referee in that game - Walt something - went strictly by the letter of the law, even though the law was stupid to begin with.
We all know a fumble when we see it, but NFL rules have changed so much over the years - it never used to be a rule that the ground could not cause a fumble, for instance - that the definition of a fumble is a lot stricter now than it has ever been. The Tuck rule call - in effect an incomplete pass because of Brady's arm going forward when the ball came loose - was the RIGHT call, strictly speaking.
And Matt, sorry but breaking a rule is not necessarily cheating; you have to know you are violating a rule in order to be considered a cheater. Did Belichick know he was breaking NFL rules when he had Estrella videotape from the sidelines? I guess we'll never know.
And Melanie, there's nothing I can add to your comments. Well said.
ok maybe the pats almost lost to the ravens they came back thats what superbowl teasm do they win games and maybe they go got cheated they didnt cheat aginst the other 14 teams they beat so maybe they had some close games every tema is undefeted or not none is giong to stop they beat some of the best teams pittsburg, colts, chragers and enythi9ng else in there path maybe they should juts hand ova the rings it will save the other teams from humiliation every has to stop using the excuse oo they cheated they tokk away the tape befre half the didnt even get 2 see it so all u other peolpe have to shut ure moulth becase there the best team the nfl have sen sence teh 84bears,72dophins and the rest of the best dynasty aand there going to keep winijng until somone stops them and that could take years and remember records are made to be broken so im looking forwasrd to 19-0 everyone know thats going to happend i just cant wait ti win it this year then win it agin next year
As far as the whole snowplow thing goes, how can it be cheating if at the time the incident took place, there was no rule against it? That was simply a case of a smart head coach having a good idea at the right time.
As far as the whole "deliberately breaking the rules is cheating," oh please. If that's the case then there is cheating going on during every single play, namely the offensive line committing holding violations with deliberate intent.
Deliberate breaking of the rules does NOT equal cheating.
Patriots broke the rules and were punished for spygate. Were they wrong "yes"
Tuck Rule; did they Cheat? Of course not the official made the call.
Snow Plow incident was soley done by the snowplow driver. Those are the facts. There was no rule against it at the time. Therefore no penalty or cheating involved. Just innovating thinking by an employee of the stadium.
The Ravens should have won that game no doubt. The blame is on the Ravens coaches not that the Pats are lucky.
Maddy you need to get your facts straight before mouthing off. It does not give you any credibility whatsoever.
Just another young sports fan who doesn't seem to like her team losing as the Steelers are on the way down. Injuries are going to be the demise of this team this year. More excuses I'm sure.
People can say I'm jealous of the Pats success, but I'm not.
I rather be a fan of a team who didn't win a single game all year than the New England Patriots.
I hate those Patriots.
The Baltimore game was called fairly, despite what Ray Lewis and other Ravens said.
If you want to whine about New England getting the benefit of the doubt from refs, then you need to rewatch the NE-Indy game from this year.
Asante Samuel on a BS pass interference call, Kevin Faulk clearly being hit before the ball gets there...no call, and a HUH? offensive pass interference on Randy Moss.
You call the Patriots lucky, not realized that Luck is just Preparation + Opportunity
I'm not a football expert by any means but in any sport, a team that wins every game it plays is a very, very good team.
And I think that despite her denials, jealousy does play a part in Maddy's dislike of the Patriots. Any team as dominant as the Pats have been over the last few seasons is likely to incur that sort of resentment.
I follow English Premier League soccer, where Manchester United has been the dominant team now for the last fifteen years. Those of us who aren't Man U fans absolutely love it when they lose - which because it doesn't happen very often is all the sweeter when it does.
It can sometimes seem that whenever United are in trouble, they always manage to win that crucial last-minute penalty or have a goal against them disallowed. And of course there's the infamous phenomenon known as 'Manchester Standard Time', whereby if United are losing by one goal, the injury time added on at the end of the game will last until they score.
Let's face it, referees are human and can be pressured into favoring the strong. But that doesn't happen as often as we think, and we all forget those occasions when a decision didn't go Man U's way.
The same applies to the New England Patriots. Football is a funny old game (to borrow a favorite saying of that great old English soccer player Jimmy Greaves), and although 16-0 would be an incredible achievement, it all counts for nothing if they don't negotiate the postseason. I have a sneaking feeling that they will get their 'perfect season' and then come to grief in the playoffs in a quite unexpected way.
You don't like the Patriots. That's OK. You should root for the team you have a connection with anyway. I grew up here in Maine where most where Pats fans and some Giants fans sprinkled in too. When I was 16 the Patriots went 1-15. We fans have suffered with terrible teams all of those years the Steelers and Cowboys were dynasties. In the last 10 years I've been fortunate enough to see my team get a good coach, Bill Parcells. He made some great changes and then the team was sold to a man who has been a fan, a season ticket holder, most of his life. His name is Bob Kraft and he made even more positive changes. He brought in a coach that is a real football historian, Bill Belichick. Now BB is not nearly the fun personality that Bill Parcells was, but he has literally read every book ever written about football, having recently donated thousands of them to the library at the US Naval Acadamy. One thing that Belichick has been doing since he was ten years old is look at film of football games and break down the action on big pads of paper. His dad was a collage football coach and taught him how to predict what was about to happen based on what he saw on film before the ball was snapped. After watching the same team for several years he could correctly predict what a coach would tell his team to do before it happened. When he became a head coach the natural progression of systematic prediction is to watch what the coach calls and then tell your team what to do. That's why you see so much movement of players before the snap to disguise what is about to happen, right? The historian in Belichick wants to build a library of football situations. For example if he is coaching against the Steelers in a game, what is Mike Tomlin most likely to call for a play when facing a 3rd down with 8 yards to go inside the red-zone, with a three receiver set and the tight end located on the weak side of the formation and the quarterback in the shotgun with an empty backfield and a rookie receiver in the slot? Oh and what about when it's raining and the ball is slippery? What are the Steelers most likely to call in that situation? As an average fan would have absolutely no idea what is about to happen, what if you were a coach that had over 200 games Mike Tomlin had coach on video to look at the week before you played the Steelers? You could quickly build a set of situations and make a list of the plays called in those specific situations. Bill Belichick is a "genius" because he has mastered the concept of "Situational Football". Just because he wanted to use a camera to record signals that can can be seen from every seat in the stadium doesn't make him a cheater. It makes him an innovator. The fact is that Belichick didn't think Eric Mangini would shine a light on a practice he himself uses. Stupid? Yes. Cheating? No. That's a word Patriot haters use but the NFL commish never did. The progress of sports is marked with innovation and forward-thinkers. Anyway I'm sorry you don't like the Patriots. I do and I know there's a lot to like with this team. The more you learn about this organization the more you like them. I don't much care for the Steelers because they once stacked all of their player's luggage outside the Patriot's locker room before the AFC Championship game was even played. The luggage was there so that the Steelers could leave for the Super Bowl as soon as they finished with the Patriots. They went home losers instead. I was never more happy! Have fun with your blog and good luck. I hope you can find room in your heart for all the Patriot fans that are enjoying a season to tell the grandkids about in 30 years...
obviously you never really follow the nfl
or you would say those things about everyone involved.
life ain,t fair and neither is the nfl
get over it
Maddy, the fact that you are 16 and still ignorant in MANY ways, is reason enough to not say anymore, and just laugh!! I hop eyou grow up and become a true fan of the sport and your team (who lost to the pats - hence you being jealous) and live with the fact that anything can happen; like last year for me, the team I 'hate' the most beating the Pats in the AFC championship game and going on to win the SB... but I don't dare think they suck. (and also, keep in mind any time that yellow flag is thrown, someone CHEATED!)
Any Steeler fan saying the refs made bogus calls during the Baltimore game needs to watch Super Bowl XL again. Seattle clearly got hosed on several occasions. The fact of the matter is to have a perfect season a lot of things have to go right and that includes a little luck. Just like a pitcher throwing a no-hitter or a perfect game. Nine times out of 10 you'll see some defensive gems happening behind the pitcher. As I lifetime Pats fan, I'd much rather see them lose in December rather than January or February. A perfect regular season means nothing if it isn't followed up with a Super Bowl win.
Don't use Superbowl XL. I was at that game, and saw it in person. The Steelers rocked that season. If the Seahawks were in the AFC, there is no way they would have made it to the Superbowl. That's obvious.
I'm not ignorant. I believe in honesty. I don't care how many people think the Patriots wrong. I used to have respect for them. Before I was made aware of the "Spygate" incident.
I can't wait for the AFC champ game when the Steelers will smack the Pats silly. (Of course, this would require not losing to the Jets...) Historically, Steelers play better as the underdog. And they are not going to be happy to see the Pats in the champ.
It doesn't matter if the Pats are good. The fact that they are a team built on lies means they don't deserve anything.
At 5 (Pacific), my radio show will be discussing this topic. Feel free to call in.
You were at the game? Awesome! I'm sure seeing it live at a distance was a much better vantage point than all the camera angles we saw on TV. My bad. You're right.
As for the Seahawks being a lesser team than the AFC, I agree. You still can't change the fact they won their conference. This year is a different story. I think Dallas, Green Bay and even Seattle can beat Pittsburgh or New England.
As for meeting the Patriots in the AFC Championship this year? You're forgetting something. As it stands now the Steelers would have to get through Jacksonville, then beat the Chargers or Colts. Not gonna happen.
If they are a good underdog, why did they lose to New England this year? Seems I remember a guaranteed victory for that game too. Hmmmm.
Anyway, I wish your team luck getting through the first two rounds. It's a tall order for a team with the most over rated QB in the NFL.
I feel sorry for a 16 yr. old girl to have so much hate in her over sports. You have to remember that you don't have to watch anything that you wish not to. You know & I know the pat's are an excellant team. Tom Brady is a real gentleman & never takes full credit for anything. These players are worked very hard at practice & let's face it, It shows!!Sometimes it's best to keep opionions to yourself as everybody has a job to do.They are going to WIN & all you attackers should hide. Remember unless you can do a better job or know a better way than don't tear people apart. By the way I am much older than you, sick with cancer so my problems are much worse than your, dear.
The Patriots are an awesome team! The only difference between the Patriots and many other NFL Football teams is, they got caught and the rest haven't got caught YET! Come on, lets be real about this. They are an excellent team and I hope they go all the way! I am proud to wear my #12 Jersey!!!!
Maddy,
Do you realize that when you say and/or feel 'hate' you generate that energy into the universe which will in turn foster more 'hate'. Perhaps you may want to take an in depth look into your long 16 years on this planet and admit to yourself how childish your article really was. The Patriots are, for this season, the most awesome team because they TRAINED to be the best! Their continued WIN status has or had nothing to do with what you call cheating. Good luck growing up. One becomes wise and capable of thought through Life's experiences and how one acts or re acts to given situations. I hope you learn to control your anger and your finger pointing...admit it Maddy, I am certain you have also broken a few rules. Drink your milk and say your Prayers. Good night
wolfmom in wisconsin
While I dislike the Patriots as much as you do, I was taught early on in life the phrase "scoreboard" No matter how your team loses, whether by luck, poor play, or even cheating, SCOREBOARD is all that matters when the game is over
maddy if you are such a fan of football that you think you know what your talking about, then you would know the steelers didnn't rock the year they won. there was many teams playing far better and deserved it far more then the steelers did. plain and simple they won that sb because it was jerome betis's last year, sb was in his home town. such a big deal was made of it a retard could see they was gonna be given that game. just like last year when in the begining of the season, all the talk was about there never being a black coach in the super bowl. once again a retard could have seen that only a team(s) with a black coach would be there, hence chicago (who had a great team last year) and indy (with nfl's calander boy qb). you want to talk about bad calls by refs??? then talk about the bad calls that was handed out to 90% of the teams for the last 10 years atleast by refs. for one thing, refs can't always see everything hence the replays, for another nobody is perfect and they make mistakes. and your 16, don't talk like you are some nfl expert. myself and by the looks many of the ppl responding to your ranting, have been watching football longer then you been breathing.
here is a lesson for you, loyal fans support thier teams in the good years and the bad no matter what. that does not mean however that they claim thier team got robbed, jipped, cheated out of a season. they instead suck it up and look onto the next year. look at miami this year, you think all thier loyal fans are hating the patriots cause thier team is doing so horrible?? no they are not. the real fans...the loyal fans, that have a clue what goes on in football can see the team is going through a down stage like all teams do. this is part of the reason there is a salary cap in the nfl, if not then it would be like the yankees in mlb. you need to just sit back and learn more about the game, and about the league before ranting about any team no matter which one it is. if you want to be mad at somebody, then be mad at the steelers for not hiring coach B, not drafting brady, not picking up moss, thomas, saeu, and all the other great players the pats have. there is a few reason the pats beat the steelers...first the pats play like a team and nobody has a big mouth guaranteing wins, showboating, crashing motorcycles in the offseason. the pats play week to week, all that matters is the next game, not the stats from thier star players, not the records that they may break. only thing that counts is putting up more points then thier next opponants, that is why they win. just because a team is behind late in the 4th quarter doesn't mean they should lose, if thier coach is smart enough, players good enough then they stand a chance (within reason of course). this isn't a sport where they call the game cause 1 team is in the lead by so many points. this is football where they fight for it till the last second of those 60 minutes.
remember one thing, winning is winning, it doesn't matter if its by 1 point or 50, and it doesn't matter who held the lead at any time during the game, just who has the lead at the end of it.
It certainly is funny to read a Steelers fan complain about bogus calls considering that's how they won their last Super Bowl.
The Pats don't suck. They have many great players and great coaches. It's their fans who suck because they lack integrity and will accept whatever happens as long as their team wins. Regardless of their age, they are ignorant in many ways.
Intentionally breaking the rules is cheating, but it's certainly no shock that Pats fans and Goodell, all who have a vested interest, play semantics.
"you have to know you are violating a rule in order to be considered a cheater. Did Belichick know he was breaking NFL rules when he had Estrella videotape from the sidelines?"
According to Goodell, "This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid long-standing rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field." So by the criteria you set, he did cheat.
"Tom Brady is a real gentleman & never takes full credit for anything."
Ask Bridget Moynahan.
Consistancy always answers the question of deserved, Prefection answers all questions of doubt.
I love the fact that a Steelers fan has this kind of energy to dedicate to the greatest team to ever, that's right ... the greatest NFL team we have ever witnessed. Those Steeler teams from the 70's ... want to talk about luck? ... Leave it be sweet pea, and have a STEEL bucket ready - you'll need one after Saturday's performance. Steel curtain ... what's that all about? 15-0 and don't forget it.
"Tom Brady is a real gentleman & never takes full credit for anything."
Ask Bridget Moynahan.
Yes. Let's do. Let's ask her how a successful young actress in her thirties can be so desperate to hang on to a failed relationship that she allows herself to get pregnant. I'm no OB/GYN, however I remember some basic facts. It takes two to tango, and Brady should have been more careful, but she could have prevented a pregnancy had she wanted to do so. Why would she want to be the single mother of Tom Brady's baby? Who is morally superior in this instance? For the record he could have told Bri to go pound sand but he stood up at the podium, acknowledged it and is taking time to be with the boy and be a part of his life. It could have been a lot worse. Oh and who are you to judge, exactly?
This just plain wrong. Ironic is it not that a 14 year old gets to go to a Super Bowl when many fans who have followed their team for years have not nor will they ever get the chance to attend this storied game.
Yes, at 16 you have all the answers. And in your galaxy of gained knowledge you are the supreme holder of all truth.
If the Patriots are a team built on lies, then your team is one built on ego and jealousy. I will allow you to ruminate on the similarities.
Tanner, I am very well familiar with Goodell's statement on the Patriots, but again, he stopped short of calling them CHEATERS, and I sensed a lot of frustration and aggravation in it. He was likely pissed that just days after a league-wide memo on videotaping was sent out, one coach still violated the rules, which as I'll explain below, are still somewhat contradictory despite the memo.
Anyway, perhaps the reason Goodell didn't call Belichick a cheater can be found in this statement: "As the commissioner acknowledged, our use of sideline video had no impact on the outcome of last week's game. We have never used sideline video to obtain a competitive advantage while the game was in progress." That was Belichick talking about Goodell.
The point is, the NFL rules on videotaping had loopholes and still aren't entirely clear. While the Sept. 6 memo to NFL coaches restated some of these rules, can you or anyone else tell me how clear this still active rule is?: "All video for coaching purposes must be shot from locations enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."
I mean, did whoever the person was who wrote that rule not realize that not every NFL stadium has a "roof overhead"? How about the possibility that some coaches could shoot video at locations on fields where a roof would be overhead but in other places, there is no roof?
It's a dumb, subjective rule and the league should address the entire videotaping policy instead of issuing a memo just days before the season starts.
Did Belichick and (as we recently learned) Eric Mangini have that confusing loophole of a rule in mind when they sent cameramen to tape the opposition from the - respectively - sideline and endzone area? Probably, but again, we just don't know. Both coaches videotaped each other. One didn't get penalized, the other (fairly or unfairly) paid a hefty price but has come out smelling like a rose ever since.
Ollie from Florida--Yes, Brady is such a gentleman. That's why he's barely involved in his kid's life (he's supporting "financially." whatever). Check out #31 Joe's comment. Good luck with your cancer.
wolfmom--I am familiar with the idea of creative visualization. I saw "The Secret" and watch it when I struggle with life. And, although I have disobeyed my family, I do for the most part follow the rules. I would never agree with the Steelers being involved with Spygate.
gotpatriots1975--The Steelers barely got in as a wildcard. They had to do the whole playoff thing on the road. That's tough. They stepped it up when they needed to. Indy was the best team last year. If you think the whole system is phony, why watch? Last year, the Steelers sucked. Did I still go see them lose to San Diego? Yep. I love my team.
Tanner Boyle--I was at the game. Everyone around me (Yep, those Seattle FANS!) knew that Ben was in for the touchdown. You know nothing.
Paul Cheney--I wasn't alive in the 70s, but from the clips I've seen, the Steelers were talented. Luck did help though: IMMUCALUTE RECEPTION!
I think it's fun to get flamed! Keep them coming.
Erdoboy in Chi-Town--
First of all, I admit that I'm spoiled. I've always admitted it. I know I'm rich and I know I'm lucky. It doesn't make me not deserving.
I'm not one of those spoiled rich brats who doesn't care about the world. I hold a steady job taking care of an autistic child and am an active member in the Gay-Straight Alliance . I'm an honor student. I'm not saying this makes me deserving. But I'm lucky to be where I am. And I know that.
I enjoy the sarcastic tone. I know I don't have all the answers. You're making me sound like a horrible person, who I'm really not.
The Steelers are built on pride and legacy. It is clear that some of our players have huge egos (QB Big Ben and former Joey Porter), but that doesn't make our team bad.
At least I can knowing hold my head up high as a Steeler fan. If I was a Pats fan, and I don' know about anyone else, but I personally would NOT be ok with the Spygate crises.
Erdoboy--
And my father, who lived in Pittsburgh for many years, has been following the Steelers since he was a kid. And HE wanted his daughter there.
well maddy, just so you know, with all your superior football knowlege over the rest of us, steelers are built on nothing but ego. back int he 70's, the days of the steel curtan (if you even know what i'm refering to), the nfl was very unbalanced. this is why we have the current draft system and current salary cap. in order for a team to win the superbowl and actually earn it (unlike your steelers), they not only need good players, but a smart coach who knows how to use his draft pics and how to trade. hence you get this years patriots which is full of talent that other teams couldn't afford. you know why they couldn't afford it??? simple, these players would want much more money to play for anybody else. have you any idea how many players renegotiated thier own contracts for less money so they could play in new england? i'll give you a hint.... its 100% more then the steelers had doing it. the steelers aren't about teamwork... not one of them are, and that dear girl is why your steelers don't deserve to even be in the playoffs this year or any other till they learn what the game is about. and you can hate the pats all you want, simply put you aren't smart enough to deserve being a pats fan anyway. let me guess your one of those fans who blame the refs, and claim the other team cheated when the steelers get pwned. its ok to admit it, you'll fit right in with eric mangini. see in his eyes its ok for him to cheat but nobody else better do it then he loses his advantage cause he's such a lousy coach he can't win without cheating. now we get on the topic of watching the opposing coaches doing thier play calling... how many times have you actually seen a coach call a play without covering thier mouth with thier playbook? answer none unless they don't like thier job and don't like winning. reason being is this... all coaches are watched by teams scouts during games. these scouts are expert lip readers. this is one way teams try to gain an advantage in games, ALL TEAMS!!!! what irritates me is ppl mouthin off about the pats and not realizing that all teams do this they just haven't been caught by eric mangini when they stomp his ass.
I know what the Steel Curtain is. A couple of years ago, I wrote a ten page paper for school on the 1979 Steelers.
I do like the Salary cap. I refuse to watch baseball until they get one. I do like a level playing field.
This should clear the salary cap arguement up. Saying that Steeler players only play for $$$--
From Jerome Bettis' OFFICIAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY:
p. 122 "I didn't test the market [for higher offers to play] I knew Pittsburgh was my home and where I wanted to end my carreer. MY LOYALTY WAS WITH THE STEELERS."
Pittsburgh has played bad this year, but this team has talent. Look at our probowlers: Big Ben, Troy, Willie (can't play), Harrison, Faneca, Farrior (I think, not sure). Plus, we have a first year coach. Our system is very different then last year. We deserve to go to the playoffs.
I rather be a Steeler girl, than a Pat. You can bash my team all you want, but I won't care. I guess that's the difference between me and you.
Show me prove that the Steelers cheat, and I'll lay off the Pats. Until then...
How is Tom Brady suppose to be 'involed' in his kids life when the bitter mother who tried to trap him into marriage with a pregnancy was so bitter she moved 3000 miles away?
He has seen his son a few times during the season including the bye week. I bet he will be seeing his son alot come the off season.
I for one, KNOW that Tom Brady is a good guy and that Bridget was extremely selfish in her actions. What happened to Tom Brady could happen to any man. He just gets his dirty laundry aired in public.
The "spygate" thing really hurt me. As a lifetime Patriots' fan, I was stunned at how this could happen. It turns out that every NFL team could tape anything they wanted, from anywhere they wanted -- up to Game 1 of this season. The NFL commissioner, worried that sideline taping could provide an unfair competitive advantage, decided to stop the practice. He sent a correspondence to each NFL team indicating that taping the game from an opposing sideline was not longer allowed.
So how was this heinous act of the Patriots' found out? How could such an act of trickery be discovered? Oh yeah, the guy was standing in full view, on the opposing sideline taping the game. After 10 minutes.....
"You're not supposed to do that anymore!!!"
"Really??"
"Give us the camera!!"
"Here!!"
When asked why he would so blatantly break an NFL rule, the jerk head coach (I'm a fan, but don't like him!) said, "I misunderstood the memo!".
The commissioner reviews the film, and fines the dumb-ass coach and the Patriots for their actions.
"Spygate" over!!!
I'm from New England, and I severely dislike the Patriots. They have the biggest ego of any sports team that I have ever seen. They might be great players, but they're horrible once they're off the field.
girlegirl, where have you seen incidents like this. I find it very unlikely. Please enlighten us all with examples.
Much of sports has an element of luck, Maddy and the Ravens completely lost their cool in that game. Granted, I'm a Pats fan, but I think the point is valid.
I also live in New England and think the Patriots bite too. No matter if they go 16-0, no matter if they win 15 more superbowls in a row, they will still suck the big one to me. Krafty, Bellecheat, Brady, and crew carry the aura of royalty and think their poo doesn't stink, and that is how I see it it in a nutshell, listen and watch. Krafty boy also buys the NFL off every couple of years I suspect and surrounds Brady with the best players he can afford, and of course refs too--- viola----instant superbowl heros again. Gimme a break. Brady is not God's gift to quarterbacks by any means let's see what he would do with little protection like so many other QB's are forced to do...the team itself is only as good as Krafts' deep pockets and Bellecheks' underhanded tactics. The problem here is that this is all related to a "Professional" sport, which simply means that there is alot of money involved for not only the league, but teams, owners, and players, and because of that things tend to get "tweaked" each year for the best media hype and return for profit..Just my honest opinion.
On a final note, I'd personally I'd like to see Brett Farve win the superbowl and wrap up his career going out on top. God knows that boy has taken some serious poundings during it and not to mention what a story that would be. I like to call him "Timex", cause that is what he is. Let's see Brady top that career.... NOT.
Lets also remember that jr,and a few other pats were involved in hgh. I am so sick of boston getting everything pushed under the rug for their cheating. Sports suck we should just boycott all of the lies they give us.
So, whoever wrote this silly blog article, who would you or any of the people who wrote comments in agreement with you, but you'd be loving it if this was your team. I'm not even all that crazy about the Patriots...but you can't win the way they do by cheating all the time. Every single team does what the Patriots were 'caught' doing early this season. The Jets who basically suck and have sucked after Joe Namath and the AFL, are the ones who leveled the complaint and why should they not, they're still upset Belichick went to the Patriots instead of them. The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves. - William Penn
I think this team is to be respected for it's effort and a GREAT SEASON, however that should not come by way of calls in their favor and the officials looking the other way when they violate the rules their opponents have worked hard as well. It seems like the refs will look at a play and say o-kay guys that wasn't the real ting lets do it again. I think for them to be truly considered as great as the are publisized to be they would be able to win without question. In all the games they were tested in there is atleast 1 if not more than 1 questionable call(s) that helped them get the win-Even Brady has admitted it himself- and ultimately make history. That to me deserves some scrutiny, but oh well if they can live with it I guess it's got to be o-kay....shameful though.
football fan, what your leaving out are the blatant questionable calls that went against the pats like in tonights game. but hey its ok if it goes against the pats but if the refs screw up in favor of them then heaven forbid right? as i've said before, they can't see everything but enough is enough. they have made horrible calls against or for every single team in the league. time for the nfl to fire all refs and hire some that will do the job right. (late hit my arse he was still inbounds no matter what that pats hating bias commentator said, even a blind man could see it) but oh wait bad calls never go against the pats huh. and what helped them get the win against the ravens was a moron coach the ravens have. don't blame the pats for his mistakes, like the raiders did in the playoffs that year.
you haters and band wagon jumpers can talk trash about the pats all you want, how many pats players crashed a motorcycle in the offseason trying to show boat??? oh wait none!!!!! how many pats players after a game say "i did this right, i did that right" or "so and so didn't run the route i callled at the line thats why the ball was overthrown" none thats how many. and like said before, the pats aren't the only team mangini accused of cheating this year. obviously its a well known practice by ALL coaches and teams and he just can't take the fact that they suck. even the dolphins aren't blaming others for how bad they are, they take responsability (i hate the dolphins for the record) do the steelers take responsability for thier play... no they don't. we all know the jets don't "oh they cheated, nobody can beat us without cheating"
far as the superbowl, packers vs the pats. not only is that what i would like to see but i don't think any nfc team has what it takes to stop the pack and NO afc team is good enough (without horrible ref's help) to beat the pats. now imho this would also be the best match up for the fans to see. both teams are experienced (not counting teams that had it handed to them instead of earning it (indy, steelers)), both have won it and both will fight till the end for the win.
yes farve has had a long tough career and even if he doesn't win the sb this year he can still retire with his head high after this season (no i'm not a pack fan either). would be nice to see the rematch from what 97'? long as its good refs it would be an incredible game to see.
I am and have been a life long Dallas Cowboys fan so there is no jealousy here; the Cowboys have 5 superbowls as do the Steelers, Maddy's team. Before you claim that people hate hate the Patriots because of jealousy, you best check your facts. I don't see any actual cheating asterics attached to either the Cowboys or Steelers; there is a lot to be said about playing by the rules. Last nights game against the Giants was a joke; the Giants couldn't win no matter how hard they played. The officials were obviousy biased and wanted so badly to be a part of history that they chaeted to get there. How can you call a late hit out of bounds against the team that had the ball and took the hit. I know that is not the call the officials used; however, Stevie Wonder could see thats what happened. Patriots fans, I know you have annointed yourselves superbowl champs before winning;however, may I remind you that Payton Manning and the Colts are the reigning champions until someone takes it from the. These self agrandizing Patriot fans have apparently forgotten that there are playoffs to go through and as Naddy said, luckand refs can't always pull you through.
Isaac
I hate the pats more than most (i am an indy fan), but you have to admit they are an awesome team. They are now 16-0, have mind blowing stats, and though the coach is a donkey the players do make good press statements.
The thing I find humorous is they say one thing then do another. I could care less about them running up the score or pressing so hard for an undefeated season, but if their goal is merely to win the Super Bowl, then why play Brady when it does not matter. The answer is arrogance; Not Brady, but Belichick. I was hoping that Belichick's arrogance would get Brady hurt. Not that I truly was hoping that someone got hurt, but I would have loved Belichick's arrogance to have been the downfall of the Pats.
Now that they are 16-0, I hope for a Colts- Pats AFC championship, but if the Steelers or whoever can beat them it will put a smile on my face.
Not cheaters.
Read what occured last year:
Mangini: Jets taped during playoff game last season, but received permission from Pats
By DENNIS WASZAK Jr.,AP Sports
Posted: 2007-12-12 14:35:08
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - The spy games between the New York Jets and New England Patriots began last season.
The Jets were caught videotaping at Gillette Stadium last season and the Patriots had that New York employee removed from the area, according to published reports Wednesday. Jets coach Eric Mangini said his team received permission to film behind both end zones during the playoff game in January.
"We taped the game, is what we taped, and we taped end-zone copy of the game, and we tape a double end zone, which is standard operating procedure for us," Mangini said Wednesday. "We request that every single road game, and it's usually granted if physically it's possible. And when people request it from us, we do the same thing: We grant it."
Mangini maintained the Jets did nothing wrong, and had filmed at New England during the regular season without incident. It was nothing like what the Patriots did earlier this season, when a New England employee was caught taping New York's defensive signals and punished by the league.
"We do it every time we go on the road," Mangini repeated. "We ask for permission to do it. It's within the league rules, and when people ask us to do it, we grant it, as well."
When asked why the Patriots stopped the Jets if they had already given them permission, Mangini just shrugged.
"I don't know," he said. "Really, it just was what it was. We had asked for permission, it was granted and then that changed, and we respect their decision. It's their stadium."
But in a local interview a couple of days later, Belichick said that he did not give the Jets permission to tape.
Just and eye for an eye!
GoPats:
I wasn't exactly pleased with Ben and the motocycle.
"do the steelers take responsability for thier play... no they don't. we all know the jets don't 'oh they cheated, nobody can beat us without cheating'"
You have absolutely no idea how much I've insulted my own team. We have flaws: see Offensive Line and Turnovers.
maddy glad to see you are smart enough to read through the jets (i'm sure a good friend of mine won't agree, he loves ny teams even tho he's never lived there) i too have insulted my beloved pats when i see them do stupid things. however i won't get mad at them for doing what is done by ALL other teams in the league.
isaac, if your gonna say that wasn't a bogus call against the pats and that the refs cheated for them, then you obviously didn't watch the game at all. as i said before, the refs have done that crap to every single team in the league for the last 5 - 10 years. not nessasarily favoring any one of them over the other, hence my other comment that they all need to be fired. yes your cowboys and the steelers have 5 tittles each, did they do that in the last decade with all the rule changes... no they didn't. did the steelers do most of them with the current salary cap... no they didn't. you can't compare teams of yesteryear with the teams of today. the game is totally different then it was even when the cowboys was the dynasty to beat. i personally have never been a cowboys fan and i look forward to watching them fall on thier face in the nfc playoff game against the packers. yes i'm sure they will get that far seems how the nfc is full of teams that don't belong in a playoff game to begin with (except the pack).
tom, i hate indy but i don't see any remaining team in the afc capable of knocking them or the pats out of it...not this year atleast. i am not a manning fan but his record was impressive and not an easy one to beat, now its up 1 more by brady and i'm sure will probably be there a while. hard to pass for that many td's ina season with todays defensive talents.
oh and maddy, when ben started playing i was impressed by him, then he became another bledsoe (yes i'm insulting a former pats qb) with a swelled head from attention and now i'm afraid like bledsoe a has been. sadly attention does this to many players in the nfl. there are many who could be greats but hold themselves back with arogance. most of the players make entirely to much money imo and its getting as bad as mlb. they could easily support thier family for the next 5 generations off the money they make in 1 year if they was smart, instead they blow it. oh and for the record i always liked betis and ward :P.
Go Patriots 1975,
You have obviously misunderstood the NFL rule changes. The changes you refer to have made it easier on the quarterback and receivers to produce, not harder. I believe that that the Steelers and Cowboys of yesteryear would have also performed better. As for the Cowboys and the Packers,I believe the Cowboys smoked them in their last meeting. As for the Jets cheating so that makes it OK that Belicheat cheated, that is just lame. See URL.
I believe that the the Packers are a respectable team and do believe that you are wearing the same rose colored glasses the refs are wearing when it come to your Patriots. Your hate for history and is repulsive, what do you think the Patriots three superbowls are considered? You can not just wash away history and if Romo knew what the defense was calling; he might look like a genious as well, give me a break. I have never seen such a disgusting bunch of cheaters since Barry Bonds. How can they claim that they are champs when they haven't even beat Payton Manning and the Colts. I wish the Patriots would make it to that game, but I believe that their arrogance will do them in way before that. We all know how many undefeated seasons get remebered when you lose the big one.
Isaac
GoPats1975,
Finally, we can agree on something. Ben's a great QB and the Steelers are lucky to have him (He's certainly better that Eli Manning and Phillip Rivers, although drafted way after him.) But he's cocky. This quality "I'm better than everyone" (I'm sure going to the probowl is really going to help, although he deserves it).
I'm in the middle of Bettis' book. I just gain so much more respect for him. Ward was on my fantasy team this year, and, although, he hasn't been the world's best this year, he's pretty solid. My favorite player has always been Troy. He's just awesome.
Good luck in the playoffs, but I hope you guys lose.
Maddy
I am impressed with your football insight and your loyalty for your team. Go Patriots 1975 is obvious obviously has a skewed way of thinking. When you believe that cheating is OK becuase someone else is doing it is obviously bonkers. I will be pulling for your Steelers when they play Bill Belicheat and Shady Brady. Could you imaging how great a QB Big Ben woyuld be if he had the defensive plays in advance? As long as someone, anyone, finds a way to beat the officiating teams, and the cheating Patriots, I will be happy with the outcome. I realy used to be a big boxing fan until it became obvious that the judges were skewing the outcome so I now rarely watch the sport. I love football dearly and really hope that these referees get discovered much like the NBA referees were. Happy New Years everyone.
Isaac
I'm not sure i agree with you, but i also hate patriots, no reason, just hate them... Go colts!
Hi Maddy and Isaac,
I love football and most teams, as an avid Pats fan I also think Manning is on the level as Brady and Ben is up and coming. Quite not in their league just yet.
The Jags wil beat the Steelers and only because injuries again have hurt the Steelers.
Tennesee will not beat SD.
Therefore the Jags will be in NE and the Chargers will fall to the Colts.
The Colts and Pats will again play another memorable Championship game and the Pats will prevail. Manning is dangerous and you can never underestimate is affectiveness.
It wil be a great game and the Pats wil go on to play the Cowboys.
Pats will win SB
Wow. I'm an NFL fan, loyal through the years to my Pats and, frustratingly, to the Bengals. But through it all, I love 'em both and will always root for them (even if my money is on their opponent). I can't build up a good hate for another team. I was rooting for Kitna because he did such a good job and I was pulling for Rothlesburger, (know I spelled that wrong)many times- especially after his lil golfer gal natalie dumped him. I'm happy for LT and Adrian Peterson. I'm just fascinated by great athletes and wish them well. TO is someone for whom I could work up some antagonism due to his blatant bragadoccia (don't even know if that's a word)and ridiculous behaviors. But still, I have to sit back and be amazed at his athleticism at times. Emotion for a whole team? Hate? Not if you truly love football. All teams cheat. Put another way, all people great and small try to get away with whatever they can get away with to win a game. Some call that clever and some call it cheating--usually the losers. It's human nature. Hating a whole team seems absurd, especially when they have fantastic players and they are mostly kept in line, not out there in the media with 50 million commercials. (although Joe's Cafe is priceless). Hate the Pats when they are playing the Steelers. When they aren't, why not sit back and watch them play with a neutral heart. They are pretty good.
issac, talk to me when you start actually watching football instead of just reading columns. jump that pats hating bandwagon it really doesn't bother me especially when its clear you have no clue what your talking about. watch your cowboys fall on thier face in the playoffs i know i'll be watching and enjoying it.
maddy, betis was called the bus for a reason. the boy was huge for a rb. not known for finesse but had tremendous power.
jay i'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks that way about the afc this year but i still gotta put money on the packers. i just don't think romo can get it done with that much pressure, and we all know farve can and has before. like i said before i'm not a cowboys fan or packers, but sadly they are the only real teams in the nfc this year. personally i think the nfl should change up the conferences. i think nfc is way way behind the afc and has been for a while now. maybe its time to swap some teams around so the superbowl can be more enjoyable for all. just my opinion.
I am firmly convinced now that the NFL is also completely tapped and out of touch with reality. They announce Belicheat as "coach of the year" and Brady as MVP. Hello! Did the NFL not just recently fine the New England Patriots better than a half-million dollars for CHEATING? Now they put them on a pedestal and call them heros in the same year? C'mon!! What a great role model for my son, yep... teach him that it's just fine to cheat or do anything to win, in fact let's reward him for it! What a bunch of BS. Hype mongering for money and ratings is not what football or any sport should be about and I am simply appalled that the NFL would be as shallow as that to not realize the significance of their recent actions. The New England Patriots, no matter what they've done on the record books this year, thanks to themselves and the NFL, will always be seen by many for what they really are, and I certainly do not want my kids to look towards them as role models in any way... and it irritates me to no end to now be put into a position where I as a parent have to be the one to take that away from them for their own protection. The NFL should've understood the depth and significnce of this issue when they chose to take action and inflict those serious fines upon the Patrtiots. You simply cannot have a team that is fined up the ying-yang for breaking the rules and commiting serious underhanded offenses one minute, suddenly have their head coach and quaterback put onto "hero " status in the same year. Again, what the hell are they thinking???
Not only do the New England Patriots suck, the NFL itself now follows a close second IMHO.
I think someone needs to change his tampon.
What a whiney lil' biyatch!
Incredulous--Agreed. Ridiculous.
Snerdly_Mortsnerd-- How immature. And even though you are personally attacking me, which is against the comment policy, I don't have the energy or the time to do the same to you. Write your own article praising the Patriots.
Hey Maddy, sorry to see the Steelers lose as it would have been fun to see a rematch with the Pats. Injuries killed them and although they almost pulled it out their tough Defense couldn't hold on.
The great thing about life is that there is always next year and you are young enough to see many many more great football games.
Incredulous; Sorry to know you just don't get it. The Pats broke the rules no question about it. They paid their fines and will lose a number 1 draft pick. They were penalized by breaking the rules. I don't call it cheating. If you want to call it cheating then all teams cheat.
Remember, when an offensive lineman holds a defensive player and the referee misses the call didn't that player cheat? When a receiver gets grabbed and the ref doesn't see it isn't that player cheating? He is breaking the rules and that's why they have penalties when caught.
The Pats were penalized for breaking the rules. Also, remember that the tapes were never seen by the Pats and it was within the first 7 minutes of the first quarter that this was done.
I am sorry, but Brady deserves to be MVP and Belichik coach of the year.
Sorry Jay but I don't buy that. Of course anyone will spin it all around to fit their needs, but it honestly all boils down to the morality issue here. Some cheat and some do not, period. Fines are implented to slow the cheating down, but behind it all is the fact that they are NOT supposed to do it regardless. That is the stuff I am trying to put across to my kids, to play honestly and fairly, not that "it's OK to cheat as long as you pay the fine or do the time if caught." That's a retarded way to think or try to put across to the younger generations imo. It's like the guy robbing the liquor store who shoots the clerk but the clerk doesn't die so the robber escapes the electric chair and makes us all pay for him to be incarcerated for the next 20-30 years instead at the tune of God knows how much per year. Seems to me if he made an attempt at killing the clerk he should get the same punishment as if he succeeded, rather than be rewarded for failure of the attempt. Same thing applies here, it doesn't matter whether they got caught red handed or paid the fine/did the time, it's the fact that they tried to pull the underhanded crap at all to begin with. "America's team" simply cannot act that way, if that is who they are trying to be.
What it boils down to is the fact that they did in fact cross the line, and if we do not stand up and let these guys know that it isn't right to do so and isn't something we want our kids to grow up with thinking it's OK, then maybe we can squash such nonsense and eventually have sports role models that not only the kids but their parents too can be proud of. Currently there is nothing that gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling when it comes to the New England Patriots, hopefully we can all change that in the future by letting them know today that we won't stand for such actions. Jmo.
Incredulous i'm sorry to tell you but if you don't want your kids to see cheating then don't let them watch any team in any sport. they all do it, wether they get caught or not is irrelivant, fact is they do it.
jay your absolutely right. ppl keep using that incedent at the begining of the year to claim the pats can't win without cheating. they are the only team in history to have a 16-0 regular season. not to mention all the records various players on the team broke this year. all season they was accused of running up the score on opponents, sorry but its the other teams job to stop them not thier job to punt on first down till the other guy catches up. besides ppl accuse them of cheating to win (when they all do the same thing) then they deserve to get destroyed on the scoreboard the way so many teams did this year. personally i think the pats were proving a point that they are good enough to score when ever they want to. toward the end of the season i don't think they lost a step, they was only playing as hard as they needed to in order to win. its called saving ppl for the playoffs.
maddy sorry your steelers got knocked out and better luck next year, hopefully they will all be healthy.
I agree with you and I hate the patriots and so does most of the population besides people who live off stats like sports analysts. I read that this year New England has had the biggest fan base they have had aka bandwagon fans. The pats do have lots of weapons though but still Brady is not a great QB just lots of great widereceivers if u take away Randy Moss Brady would only have had 27 touchdown passes
DOUBLE STUFFED RACING LEAGUE COMMERCIAL - Jesus!
I'd much rather have my son hero-worship Tom Brady than Peyton Manning who is whore for the almighty dollar. Did anyone see the DSRL commercial with Eli? OMG. Just when I thought his commercials couldn't get more stupid.
packersfan4life28 "I hate the patriots and so does most of the population besides people who live off stats like sports analysts"
You're discounting a lot of people who really care about a team, the way you do for the packers and maddy does about the steelers. I can't imagine why the pats are generating all the bad press except that they are doing well. I agree with Jay. They broke the rules, they paid. The rest is sounds exactly like sour grapes.
Alexandria, I would much rather have my son shoot a commercial rather than create two bastard children.
Do we still call them bastards in 2008? Do we still say, "Had a baby out of wedlock," too? Better yet, "fornicate outside the bounds of matrimony?" I think NOT marrying "for the sake of the kids" when you don't love someone is the morally "right" thing to do. But, differing opinions is what makes the world go 'round, I guess. And, situational ethics prevail in this great country...
I think the morally right thing to do is act like a grown-up and use protection, but if you would prefer your son looking up to a man who has the maturity and intelligence of a 16-year-old overwhelmed by hormones in the backseat of a parked car, then I'll look for you on Montel's next "Children having children" episode.
Tanner, I don't know any 16 year old who has the maturity and intelligence to lead an NFL team to 17-0. But you're entitled to your opinion. Funny comment about Montel, too. Made me chuckle, thanks.
Tanner--
Woah, woah. Stop right there. I hate Brady with all my heart, and I'd rather have my son shoot a commercial, but you got something wrong.
Not all 16-year-olds are immature and unintelligent. Most of the people I talk to are very mature and most of us are virgins. I'd say we don't like to be compared to Brady. Thanks.
no offence maddy but where the heck do you live.
when i worked for a moving company and was on the road i saw more 13-15 year old pregnant girls then i could ever count. everywhere i turned there was a kid with a kid and one on the way.
its sad how this happens in todays world, but even more sad that a grown man who has a kid out of wedlock is critisized for it because his football team is have a record setting year. gee lets look at all the other stars kids consider role models and look at what they are doing. until anybody can prove that Tom Brady isn't a good father to his kids (i don't mean going on tabloids either, i mean actual proof) then nobody has a right to critisize him just because he isn't married to the mother. there was a time when ppl were expected to marry due to children, however the dark ages are over and most ppl in todays society know that, that is the entirely wrong reason to wed. this type of marrage always ends up bad for the kids and for the parents, all suffer in these situations.
you want to talk about poor role models for kids, how about britney spears and her kids, look at that role model. dress like they have no self respect and are charging $5 on the local steet corner, drugs and all the other mess.
and packersfan, sorry but i've been a pats fan since about 1979, that is through tons of bad years and i know i'm not the only life long pats fan out there. you want to talk about ppl only being a fan of stats then lets look at over rated peyton manning. take away reggie wayne, marvin harrison, dallas clark and he's a nobody. atleast Brady doesn't blame his recievers when he over throws a ball. i won't critisize your bret farve, i do like the guy and respect what he has accomplished, maybe you should just open your eyes to what other ppl are actually capable of doing and respect it.
Hi GoPats--
I live in a small suburb of LA. I don't know anyone who is pregnant at sixteen. I live in a bubble. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but still. I don't like Britney Spears. I pity her. Brady's better than Moss. Not as cocky. I think the Pats are going to the Superbowl. Indy had a chance, but SD is screwed.
The pats are trash, the NFL's trash. Oh bring back those beautiful '85 Bears that killed the Pats once, and let them kill this team now. :)
maddy your right on many things, and your lucky to live in an area not over run with teenage pregnancy.
i agree that SD is screwed, they got destroyed by the pats already this year, indy would have been a closer game. who is your pick on the nfc? personally i think GB has what it takes to bring down the giants easily.
tuna if you think the nfl is trash then go somewhere else, and the 85 bears didn't have to play a pats team as good as this one.
weight gainer, pls go spam somewhere else. that has nothing to do with the blog or with the nfl.
This is so funny:
Patriots on YouTube
GoPats--
GB. I was secretly hoping for a Manning/Manning superbowl. That would have been cool. Indy had a good shot to get in, but I'm pretty sure the Giants aren't good enough. A Patriots/Packers superbowl should be pretty awesome.
Maddy
your right maddy it would have been interesting not to mention i do believe it would have been a first in nfl history.
in 1971 the Dolphins foreited their number 1 pick to the then Baltimore Colts for tampering to get Shula as their head coach... sorry gang but that is cheating and yet I don't see anyone talking about that.
NFL fined the Denver Broncos $950,000 and took away the team's third-round draft pick in 2005 for circumventing the salary cap between 1996-98. That's cheating folks and yet no one on this site is talking about that either.
Hate the Patriots all you want but the bottom line is teams cheat, break rules etc.. They paid their penlty and moved on.. I feel sorry that you haters cannot do the same.
that game with the ravens pissed me off because the timeout made by the player, that was pretty stupid and the game with the colts they should have lost the colts had them beat yeah i agree they get luky alot man even with the giants at the end of the regular season man i hope they lose the super bowl.
Yeah Pats fans, where are you guys? I thought you guys would be done sucking Tommy's dick after this loss?!?!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drowning in their tears most likely. The crow population is in jeapordy. There's a lot of people eating crow right now.
Let's all hold hands as this "Dynasty" makes histo... oh wait.. damn
There is a God and he listened.
Great game, those with true heart and desire won. Period.
Belicheat stormed off like the little arrogant baby that he is, leaving his team alone on the field to finish the game. Wow that's a mighty standup showing of sportsmanship huh? My son even noticed it and said "he looks mad, Dad". LOL. Ya think? HAHA.
Congrats to the Giants, they deserve this one.
Gotta love it.
I'm a Pats fan. I think they played badly and Eli and company deserved the win. They did have more heart last night.
I thought Bill went out to congratulate but the officials made Eli take that last knee and rushed Bill off the field. And yes, he probably was mad. I'd be mad if my team played like that. I am just as frustrated and depressed as all the anti-Pats are elated. As I'm sure you would be if your favorite team gave away the perfect season. I know by replying here, I'm opening myself up to ridicule and scorn, but someone asked where all the Pats fans are, and, well, here is one. In good times and bad. I'm used to it being a Bengals fan.....
this article reads like it was written by a 5 year old, nice work.

Comments like these are like sweet wine(whine?) to my ears. If you pick enough into any NFL teams history you will always find things worth criticizing or even label as cheating.
Seeing as the OP is a Steelers fan, lets NOT discuss the rampant steroid use of the great Steelers teams of the 70s, which contributed to their many victories, all of which are celebrated by Steelers fans then and today. It was widely known back then, and still is amongst the more than casual NFL fans, yet today it is merely brought forth when illustrating the hypocrisies of certain parties. In other words, at times like this.
Blinded by emo-rages, people turn to the obvious targets when a team is doing well: the referees. Somehow thinking that by emphasizing the borderline calls that went the Pats way, in addition to the blatantly wrong, and ignoring the ones that didn't (or were blatantly wrong against the Pats) they can somehow prove that their success is not down to ability but merely a product of luck, conspiracies or other crackpot theories. When presented with the only sane solution to this (stop following a sport they think is fixed) they usually opt instead to fly into another emo-rage, thus starting the cycle again.
Having lived through the hard years of the patsies jokes, let me assure you that it is BY FAR better to be hated than ridiculed, because at least this means that your team is doing something worth talking about.
