Xbox 360 Review: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Published December 16, 2007
Outside of the aforementioned multiplayer mode, there’s little reason besides a lone achievement to go back and try playing this again. You can always try the game on harder if you’re a masochist or something like that, but for most gamers, one playthrough should be more than enough.
If not for the great story, an interesting twist on multiplayer and some controversy over on another gaming site, this is a game that would have already been forgotten by everyone. That being said, Kane & Lynch will be a good résumé builder for those who wrote the story, but not so much for the rest of the development team. It’s easy to see why the rights to this have been picked up, and if done right (read as: cast Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton as Kane and Lynch and get a good director), it could make a great film.
But the problem is that this isn’t a movie. This is a video game. And in that regard, it fails to be anything above average. Kane & Lynch joins a long list of games this year that would be served well by a sequel to iron out most of the major flaws that are present.
Pros: The best gaming storyline of the year, and a unique take on multiplayer combat.
Cons: Graphics are not up to par, combat system is clunky, and controls are sometimes too complex.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is rated M (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Strong Language. This game can also be found on: PC, PS3 and Mobile Phone.
