DVD Review: Melrose Place - The Third Season
Published December 16, 2007
Chaos. Mayhem. Fights. Explosions. Sex, sex, and yes, even more sex. What does this all describe? One word immediately comes to mind. Actually, one place, and that place is Melrose Place. Hip twenty-year-olds living together in a trendy apartment complex and causing trouble in the city of Los Angeles - that is what this is about.
Melrose Place hit airwaves in the 1990s on the back of one character, Jake Hanson. He appeared a few times on Beverly Hills 90210, which was another popular series in the early nineties. A series made to surround Jake and his friends seemed like a good idea, and the series lasted quite a few years - seven to be exact.
Season three aired during the 1994-1995 television season with thirty episodes filled with plenty of drama. The residents of Melrose Place experience more mayhem in one year than most people have in their whole lives. Everyone has something happen to them. Death plots, kidnapped babies, and sibling rivalries are just some of the happenings in this season of Melrose Place. The DVD contains all thirty episodes, so you don't miss one moment of the action from the moment Kimberly tries to kill her husband Michael until she presses the button on the explosives she has set up in the building to kill all those she hates. Yes, Kimberly is probably the most insane character on the series by far. In fact, her character alone could make the basis of one very exciting series.
However, she isn't the only one on the show. We have more to watch and enjoy as the lives of the residents of Melrose Place unfold. Love lives come into play big time as we watch couples and sleeping partners change from week to week. Just for example, in this one season alone we watch Jake go from Jo to Amanda to some woman he rescues out of the water to Sydney and Jane before going back to Jo before she ends up in bed with his brother. Allison goes from guy to guy too, and Amanda hops from the bed of Dr. Peter Burns to Dr. Michael Mancini while holding out hope for a reunion with Jake. Is your head spinning yet?
As a fan of this series when it originally aired, I was excited to have the opportunity to revisit the series with this DVD set. I hadn't seen this season since it aired, and it was fun to watch things all over again. The DVD set not only includes the thirty episodes that make up the third season, but three special features are added as well that give you a quick behind the scenes look at the making of the third season and the characters that make up the residents of Melrose Place.
The DVD set is definitely one I'm glad I was able to see, and it brought me back to my teen years when I used to sit in front of my television on Monday nights to watch each and every single second of this series. It being nearly thirteen years since this aired, this was a welcomed blast back to my past.
