Downloadable Video Game Based On The Princess Bride Available in Spring, 2008
Published December 13, 2007
There are many types of movies. There are the "I Can't Believe I Spent Ten Bucks and Two Hours of My Life on This" movies. There are some movies that are okay, but you don't really want to see again. Then, there's the type of movie that one remembers forever and ever and can watch over and over. Even though the movie was made in 1987, twenty years later if one of my friends even mentions the movie The Princess Bride, the rest of us immediately sigh and say, "I love that movie!" It has become a reflex.
The movie starts out with a scene of a grandfather and his grandson, who's sick in bed (how Hallmark is this?). To cheer the ill boy up, the grandfather tell him a story about a beautiful princess Buttercup, played by Robin Wright Penn. (Honestly, who names their kid Buttercup? It's like one of those celebrities who named their kid Apple. Why?) Buttercup is being forced to marry Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). Her true destined love Westley (a semi-normal name), played by Carey Elwes, is determined to save her. If only all of us could be so lucky.
So, this movie, which is still extremely popular, inspired the new downloadable video game due in the spring of 2008. However, pre-order is available for only $16.99 (15% off the regular price). In the video game, one can actually help the princess and her beau fight villians, tackle the fire swamp (I'm curious about what a fire swamp is — I mean, is it marshy?), find some miracle potions, and get rid of that evil prince.
Sweet.
Wait 'till you see all the actors in animated form! It's a hoot! I wonder what they think of becoming animated? Hmm. Anyway, that's also available at the game website. The site's surprisingly fast, which is what I'm most impressed by.
I personally loved the Princess Bride in spite of the fact that it's the type of movie I despise. Plus, twenty years later, they are developing a video game. This is sure to be a hit.
