Political Prestidigitation: Candidates and Their Cohorts Trump Media Spin
Published December 09, 2007
Translation: the press was hard pressed last week to keep up with the magic climate the stars, speeches and family created in this now-heated race (on both the Dem and GOP sides). Thus the news cycle has been all about the candidates, their cohorts, and striking comparisons to past presidents. The reports were endless: Obama trots out Oprah, Clinton trots out Chelsea and her 88-year-old mother in law. And Edwards trots out Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins (in breaking news) in response. And in Bryan-College Station, Texas, Mitt Romney finally trots out his “JFK-like speech," while Rudy tried unsuccessfully to steer bloggers away from "tales of Judy."
As a dedicated poll watcher, I have noted in my past articles that Barack’s numbers simply did not bounce when expected. Was it premature expectation after the big Hollywood party this past summer at Oprah’s? Or, was it that the “Bill and Hill Road Show” temporarily trumped Oprah’s soiree? For a while that was the case. But clearly Oprah "the star maker" Winfrey has changed everything by happily stomping for her candidate in Iowa this week who she nervously called “the one.”
Oprah humbly stated that it would be up to the pundits to decide if she gave Barack the long-awaited bounce he would need to win (drum roll): the black voter bloc, the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary.
She also said, “We need Barack Obama!” I hear you Oprah. Give Barack a message for me: tell him to get even more concise and marry the man with the message. I would suggest something like: “I hear your call for change—that’s why I’m in it to win it.” Or, “I hear your call for change—and I (emphasis) will do something about it.” Poignant message aside—Obama’s polling among all groups, especially women, has finally caught fire and gained the momentum needed to reflect a serious candidate in a formidable race. According to Newsweek's latest, Obama is not alone: Mike "Aw Shucks" Huckabee is surging:
CAMPAIGN ’08
Huckabee Surges, Obama Gains in Iowa
The new NEWSWEEK poll shows the former Arkansas governor now has a two-to-one lead over Romney, while Barack improves against Hillary.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee has vaulted over his major GOP challengers to take a commanding lead in the race to win the Iowa caucuses, while Barack Obama continues to edge ahead of Hillary Clinton...

Or it could be because they're a bunch of power-mad cultists who run the stat oe Utah like a prison camp.

I don't give a crap about the tenets of the Mormon Church, Baptists or the Catholic Church. The Constitution of the United States, which I honor more than ANY religion, states: ...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
Dubya Bush has already brought the presidency into disrepute by transforming himself into a light-weight Cromwell, more Lord Protector than Commander-in-Chief. Romney and, to some degree, Huckabee, are both in different ways continuing the theme and seeking to transform the presidency into theocracy-light. By doing so, both of these men disqualify themselves from being considered for the office of president of the United States.
Re the Democratic race: I agree with the sentiment that the Hillary camp (and note that I am not saying Hillary herself) is becoming unhinged and foolishly trying to hurt Obama, not with intelligent challenges, but with crass and nasty attacks which may undo their own chances at primary victories.

The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is often accused by Evangelical pastors of not believing in Christ and, therefore, not being a Christian religion. This article helps to clarify such misconceptions by examining early Christianity's comprehension of baptism, the Godhead, the deity of Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
The Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) adheres more closely to First Century Christianity and the New Testament than any other denomination. Harper's Bible Dictionary entry on the Trinity says "the formal doctrine of the Trinity as it was defined by the great church councils of the fourth and fifth centuries is not to be found in the New Testament."
Perhaps the reason the pastors denigrate the Church of Jesus Christ (LDS) is to protect their flock (and their livelihood).
