The Gospel View: BET's Sunday Best - The Last Two Standing

On the latest episode of BET’s Sunday Best the guest artist Stephanie Mills appears on stage, singing "Sweeping Through the City" along with the three remaining contestants. Mills is best recognized by the awesome vocal performance she gave in the movie musical The Wiz of the song entitled "Home". They give a memorable performance, a last performance for one of them.

The final three contestants, Shari Addison, Crystal Aikin, and Jermaine Sellers stand together hand in hand, as host Kirk Franklin walks on the stage. Franklin announces that Sellers’ journey has come to an end. It is a bittersweet moment for the viewers who have been rooting for Sellers. He gives one final solo performance of the song "That’s The Way Of The World". Sellers leaves the stage at the end of his performance, but this is far from his final performance.

Now the remaining two contestants go against each other for the title of BET’s Sunday Best. The theme of this episode is “Judges Night” which means the judges pick the two songs that the finalists will sing.

Shari Addison’s performance of "Ain’t No Need to Worry" is more mellow than her last couple of performances. She is a dynamic singer. She took to heart the advice given by Stephanie Mills to try and sing with her eyes open. Though she follows the advice given to her, it seems hard for her to try to keep her eyes open when she sings. She is one of those people who, when she smiles, her eyes smile too. The next song she sings is "We Need a Word From the Lord". It is awesome to see the power of God take over while she is singing and to watch her try to contain herself. She sings from her soul and stirs up something inside the heart. Billi Ewing, you just may prove to be right after all.

Crystal Aikin sings "Optimistic" and also gives a fantastic performance. She allows the song to grow and gradually build and then she nails it. She communicates well to the audience and she is energetic. The audience responds to her well. She makes a connection with them. The second song she sings is "Even Me" and she nails it again. She is young, but powerful in her singing. You cannot deny the calling on her life. She has the flair of a skilled musician and she knows how to engage the audience. There is no blocking the path that God has placed her on.

This is it, ladies and gentlemen, down to the final two: Crystal Aikin and Shari Addison. Now the judges have left you with the decision to choose who will be crowned BET’s Sunday Best. This is a decision that the judges want no part of, so it is up to America to decide.
