TV Review: Gossip Girl - "Pie in Blair's Eye"

Wow, this episode should really have been called “Scenes of the S*** Hitting the Fan!”

This episode mixed this year’s Thanksgiving with last year’s in a sort of 'look how things changed and look how screwed up Thanksgiving is every year for the Gossip Girls kids' way.

Hey it’s Eric! Eric is in this episode. Way to go Eric – I think he even got a haircut for the occasion.

Waldorf party of the week: Usually I’d call Thanksgiving dinners more of a get-together but the way Mama Waldorf does it, I think this would have to be considered yet another party keeping the Gossip Girl Waldorf party streak alive!

Blair’s Mom reaches for the stars and falls just a little short: I was all set to award Blair’s mother the award for worst prime time mother in the history of television when she uninvited Blair’s gay dad from Thanksgiving, told him that Blair didn’t want to speak with him, lied to Blair about it, and gave dad’s famous pumpkin pie to the doorman! At that point, I was like, wow, she has just passed Felice Martin of 90210. Sadly, she became human for this first time by the end of the episode with a Family Ties-style tear jerk session with Blair in - of course - the kitchen. Seems she wasn’t always this bad; loving a gay man who leaves you kind of sucks so she gets some slack, but misses out at Felice’s title.

Fun Blair facts of the week: She’s on Lexipro, an anti-depressant. She also has a woman (can we please see a green card?) who helps her dress.

Not fun Blair fact of the week: See this is where being an older guy hurts my ability to understand the show. When Blair melted down I thought that she was going to do one of those blow up the microwave type deals like that blonde in Pump up the Volume did. When Blair started gorging on that pie, I didn’t really know what the hell was going on, but I think I’m correct in noting that Blair probably has issues with binge eating and anorexia.

Biggest mistake of Blair’s life: Blair about the drunk Serena: “"Nate would you please take care of her!" Seconds later they were having a water fight in a bathtub together.

Catfight of the week: A big surprise since it looked like it was going to be an ex-groupie brawl between Alison and Lily, but Blair vs. Serena wins. Serena accused Blair of sleeping with Chuck (gee, where was Chuck spending Thanksgiving these last two years?) out of revenge and Blair responds by informing Serena that she had good reason.

Serena was a drunk last year: Seems she didn’t have trouble being carded last year either. The drunk Serena got saved by Dan from a taxi, began her flirtation with Nate in a nice water fight in a robe scene, and then passed out. Dan loved her anyway.

wow, i didnt see the friends comparison there. its a bit different though, because rachel and ross where in the same group of friends and it was basically impossible for them not to hang out, but with lily and rufus they are from different worlds.
