Janel Parrish, Janel Parrish, what's so great about Janel Parrish? Bratz is her first major motion picture. Now, she’s added to her acting resume guest appearances on successful shows like Heroes and Zoey 101. Janel Parrish now plans to release her very own album.

In the movie Bratz - released to DVD on November 27, right in time for the holidays - Janel plays Jade. Jade and her three best friends, Yasmin (Nathalia Ramos), Cloe (Skyler Shaye), and Sasha (Logan Browning), promise to stay friends throughout high school, but evil girl Meredith (Chelsea Staub, whom Blogcritics interviewed) is determined to split them up. Janel’s character excels in science, and therefore, hangs out with the science club, and not her usual friends. She has another talent though: fashion. Unfortunately, her parents can’t see that.

When asked if she was anything like Jade, Janel responded, “I’m a lot like her. We both are very mixed ethnically. Our parents are both difficult. And we are both very opinionated and outgoing.” She also told me, “[If I could play any other character] I would play Meredith, because she’s the bad girl and that’s fun. Plus, she has a really cute dog.” That is true. Meredith’s dog is adorable.

Janel grew up in Hawaii and that is where she first got interested in acting. “It was when I was five. My parents took me to an opera musical, and I just fell in love with it.”
Janel grew close to her co-stars as well. Like the characters in the movie, all the girls developed a special bond. Janel admits she was nervous about meeting the rest of the cast at first. She wanted to make a good impression. Which, it is clear, she did.

Like anyone who just premiered in a major movie, Janel is a growing star, and gaining fame fast. Janel says that she doesn’t get recognized much by herself, but if she’s with the other girls, she’ll get recognized all the time. She adds though, “It’s cool. I love meeting the fans.” So, if Janel’s walking on the street, go up and say hello!

One of the coolest scenes in the movie is the food fight scene, which took two days to film. Janel admits it might be her favorite, “I was nervous at first. I had to get a pound of spaghetti dumped on me. It was fun. I mean the adults were encouraging us, how cool.”
Janel loves to sing, and hopes to release an album sometime soon. On the Bratz soundtrack, Janel sings a song that she wrote herself, “Rainy Day.” She says, “It was amazing [to record it]. I had no idea it was going to be on the soundtrack.” I have a feeling the producers couldn’t resist — the song turned out great!

Bratz is a dream come true,” Janel gushes, “although, it was overwhelming [to see myself on the big screen].” Janel takes the message of her movie to heart: she’s following her dreams. Hopefully, we’ll see her more of her soon. I expect we will.
