Music Review: The Promise of Compromise - Tokyo Rose

Tokyo Rose is a three men New Jersey-based pop-rock band consisting of Ryan Dominguez, Chris Poulsen, and Jake Margolis. The Promise of Compromise is their third album, which they began writing after touring with a number of bands that included Taking Back Sunday, The Rocket Summer, and Sherwood. According to the guys, this new album is their most upbeat and listener-friendly of the collection.

I listened to this band about everyday to relax, chill out. I have had the hardest time trying to figure out a way how I'm going to write this review. Heck, it's been a month or so since I started listening to it. Some of you may say that I'm a procrastinator, but that's not the case here. I simply don't know how to write about a band that struck such a positive chord with me. I mean how do you describe music, and especially music that you like? It's hard. But I'll try my best to give you my best.

Tokyo Rose reminds me of HelloGoodbye, but is reminiscent of Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy. I hate having to put a label on their music, but I thought it would help everyone to have a better idea of what to expect. That being said I find their music punk rock with a bit of emo in it. Their sound consists of predominately drums, electric guitars, synthesizer, and keyboard. Both the keyboard and the synthesizer add a more upbeat tone to the experience.

The band was definitely right when they said that they created a listener-friendly and sanguine sound. There are plenty of interesting guitar riffs, which make you want to jump around and create a mosh pit right there in your room. Vocal/guitarist, Ryan Dominguez said it best in the press statement, "We were looking for more polished sounds..." on the decision to use six amps thus creating a wall of sound. The music flows and there is no imbalance between the instruments and the vocals.
