Beyond Bounds: The Dante Valentine Series by Lilith Saintcrow
Published October 31, 2007
Lilith Saintcrow writes the Dante Valentine series which is sexy, gritty, dark, and addicting; I have a whole long list of adjectives that I could throw at you but what it boils down to is that this is a great series, a fantastic series that you should be reading.
Working for the Devil is the first in a five-book series covering the life and times of Dante Valentine. Dante, Danny for short, is the kind of character you can really sink your teeth into. A katana-wielding Necromancer, Dante doesn't take crap from anyone. Tough, smart, and deadly, she's built a reputation for herself in Saint City. She's one of the best, maybe even the best, and that is why one rainy day the Devil asks for her help.
Dead Man Rising is dark, gritty, urban fantasy at its best. But what makes it even better is the fact that it’s the continuing tale of a character that is unforgettable. If you read these out of order you would completely miss the building momentum, the small things that add up to create a series that is truly fantastic.
With The Devil’s Right Hand everything that had come before, all the pain of Dante’s life, you would think that it would be time for a rest. You would be wrong. Even after the death and rebirth of her demon lover Japhrimel, the death of one of her closest friends, even her own transformation, the Devil still isn’t done with her.
It all continues with the Saint City Sinners, the fourth installment, which hits the shelves November 1st and is “filled with promises to keep, jobs to be done and revenge to be fulfilled.” And I cannot wait to dive into this one.
One of the things that I really like about this series is that it isn’t what you would expect. Nothing is as easy as it seems and Ms. Saintcrow always has one more twist up her sleeve. While there is a romantic element to the story do not expect a happy ending. Dante is continually put through the ringer; relationships that seemed stable are anything but and with the Devil playing his games she is never sure who she can trust. It’s anyone’s guess how it will turn out, but isn’t that great? This is a series that truly keeps you on the edge of your seat. Check out Darque Reviews for Kimberly Swan’s review of Saint City Sinners and her interview with Lilith Saintcrow. It’s a great interview; Ms. Saintcrow talks about her work, writing, and who she reads when she has the time. There is also another interview over at The Midnight Hour.

It's great. I'm dying to start Saint City Sinners but I know as soon as I finish it I will want to read the next one. I don't want the series to end! Ok, well as long as it ends well that's ok. But the way it's going I'm not so sure.
I just discovered this series and literally tore through the first 3 in less than a week. They are very engrossing. I just downloaded Saint City Sinners from Fictionwise and now I have to make sure I leave my palm at home so I'm not tempted to read at my desk when I should be working.

Got 'em on my shelves! Amazon delivers pre-orders early sometimes, so I've had Saint City Sinners on my shelf for a while. I really can't wait to dive into the series! :)
