TV Review: Zoey 101 - The Curse of PCA
Published October 14, 2007
Put together a scary movie and one of my favorite shows — who's trying to suck up to me? On October 13, Nickelodeon finally premiered its second Zoey 101 movie, The Curse of PCA, as part of their Shocktober Halloween Festival — although it was only an hour with commercials, so it could hardly be considered a movie, but still.
Fifty years ago, as the legend goes, a mean economics teacher started working at Pacific Coast Academy. One of his students went crazy and hid up in the mountains.
Although, it was an interesting story, Zoey (Jamie Lynn Spears) and her best guy friend Chase (Sean Flynn), who now are in economics, don't believe it. Michael (Chris Massey) and Logan (Matthew Underwood), who are also Zoey's friends and Chase's roommates, and take economics as well, want to find out if it's true. To start, they find out that the student, Charles Galloway, did go to the school. Although Zoey's roommates and friends, Lola (Victoria Justice) and Quinn (Erin Sanders), don't take the class, they are interested in finding out more. Lola finds a cute guy and he leads them all to the mountains where Charles fled.
In the mountains, the gang finds Galloway's necklace. Finding out the story is true, the gang puts the necklace back and heads back to the school. What they forgot was they had Logan along, who wants to keep the necklace to achieve "fame", so he decides to sneak the necklace into Zoey's backpack. This awakens the ghost.
I'm going to begin with the acting. Jamie's was pitiful. I always get flamed for writing this, (one time someone threatened to kill me!) but it's completely and totally true. Zoey hurt her ankle and couldn't walk, and let's out a weak "ow." It's hard to explain how terrible it was. I could have done it better. Matt's was pretty good, but he had a better scared face during the episode "Haunted House" in season two. Victoria didn't have much time when she was scared, because she was smitten with some guy. Her acting was solid. Erin and Sean had good acting as well. I was shocked by Chris' acting. He's always been in the background. He should be doing scary movies, not wasting his time in a supporting role. He displayed the best acting by far in this movie.
After season one, Kristin Herrera (Zoey's always-in-a-bad-mood roommate, Dana) was kicked off for "looking too old" (B.S.). After season two, Alexa Nikolas (Zoey's boy crazy roomie, Nicole) was cut for fighting with Jamie. (Whatever...) But where was Paul Butcher, who plays Dustin, Zoey's brother? He's still an official character and was not in the movie. I find this odd.
