Chocolate Cravings are Not a Gift from God, Scientists Conclude

TasteTV and Chocolate Television fans should take a seat. In what is a pretty blasphemous report, some scientists have concluded that the craving for chocolate does not have a spiritual basis, but is instead caused by colonies of bacteria growing in your gut. In this report, scientists claim that for some people, these colonies of bacteria are — gasp! — immune to the appeal of chocolate entirely.

The co-author of the study is Sunil Kochhar, who is in charge of metabolism research at the Nestle Research Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. "Our study shows that food preferences, including chocolate, might be programmed or imprinted into our metabolic system in such a way that the body becomes attuned to a particular diet," the author concluded.

Even though Nestlé paid for the study, it is said to have been delayed for over a year because they couldn't find eleven men — on planet Earth — who don't eat chocolate.

Through various analyses, it was determined that in some people, cravings, obesity, and diet could be explained by what's in their stomach. Of course, this isn't news to anyone who is lactose intolerant.

Perhaps this article should been titled “Eleven Men Found Who Don't Like Chocolate.” Either way, we won't be seeing any of them at the Chocolate Salons.
