The album very much sounds to me like something they didn't want to hype. It's mellow, low key and very focused. Which means it sounds confidently intentional. I don't think they were going for bells and whistles at all. A lot of the songs are also taken from their concert tour, which probably means they listened to the feedback of their audience and decided to give them what they wanted.
