Google may bid in upcoming FCC auction
Google may bid in the upcoming FCC auction of the 700 MHz wireless spectrum. Google had previously announced that it would bid if the FCC adopted rules that required open platforms. The FCC did not adopt rules that fit all of Google's openness requirements, but Google's CEO said that the company is likely to bid for the wireless spectrum anyway. The spectrum was previously used by TV stations who are now switching to digital distribution. The spectrum is of interest because it can go through the walls of buildings and travel long distances.
