TV Review: The Two Coreys - Feldman and Haim, Together Again!

What is this weird obsession people have with the 1980s? Were they really that fantastic? The music? The jeans? The hair? Really? The Coreys? Really!?

Well, at least it's not all back I guess, but the two Coreys are. Last night, their new show, shockingly entitled The Two Coreys, launched on A&E with back-to-back episodes. Why exactly they are back I can't fathom, but apparently, at least fleetingly, they are.

Corey Feldman is allegedly able to make a living as an actor full-time, and certainly has a nice house. Corey Haim on the other hand is unemployed and, we're told, clean and sober (his jitteriness calls that into question). Feldman is married, Haim isn't. Wow, it's like The Odd Couple; I guess that's why The Odd Couple theme music plays at the opening of the show along with an Odd Couple-esque introduction.

If I mock, it's not because I dislike it all, rather just because the whole thing is so terribly silly. These two guys were teen heartthrobs for about a minute and a half back in the mid- to late-'80s. Feldman is still friends with Haim, but seems to want to be able to have a career outside the Corey thing. Haim, on the other hand, sees this reunion as a chance for the two Coreys to have a new lease on a career and stardom. I can't imagine it being a success.

Even Feldman's appearance of wanting a career outside of the Corey thing has to be called into question though because, after all, he is doing this show. Hypothetically, he may just be helping out a friend, but I think he's pretty invested in the Corey thing still. He may be working as an actor, but it's not like he's getting parts in big movies. My guess is that he is just acting nonchalant about the entire endeavor in case it doesn't pan out. He doesn't want to look like he was really into it and have another thing flop.

It doesn't take long for their biggest hit, The Lost Boys, to be brought up. There's a poster of the film prominently placed on Feldman's wall which Haim happens to break when he smacks it (why he smacks it is another question entirely). And, by the second episode, they're attending a 20th anniversary screening of the film and talking about a sequel. Well, Haim is talking about a sequel, Feldman is much more ambivalent about it. Haim actually wants to write the sequel with Feldman (and possibly that other brother from the film, too). They both seem to want to make sure the whole thing is "done right." Certainly the two Coreys writing the sequel belies the notion of doing it "right," but I digress.

At first, Feldman's seeming ambivalence to the whole thing is weird. As it turns out, he's acting strangely about it all because he already knows that a direct-to-video sequel is in the works and the two Coreys aren't invited (Feldman was actually, he was offered a cameo but turned it down). This turn of events breaks Haim's heart (and, presumably, his dreams).

As train-wreck television goes, if you were ever interested in the two Coreys, you will probably like the show. It seems highly edited and some of the goings-on appear as though they were set up ahead of time, but it is an interesting diversion for the voyeur in you.

The Two Coreys airs Sunday nights on A&E.

YES!Sorry Feldman but your wife seems like a major bitch! She thinks the show is about her or she just likes to steal the attention away from Corey Haim by sqeezing out a few fake tears to get Corey Feldman to lash out against his best friend!Wake up little Susie the show is called The Two Coreys. Not A day in the life of Corey Feldmans wife!Susie seems like she knows exactly how to push Corey Haims buttons & she gets Haim to act exactly the way she wants him to act in an attempt to make haim look bad & to keep Corey Feldman on her side.Corey Feldman wake up!& stand up for your Best friend I know she's your wife but Corey haim has been your friend for over 20 YEARS!Plus Haim realy needs your friendship & support right now.Haim is a guest in your home spend more time with Haim & tell susie that she needs to stop being so selfish! When Corey Haim & Corey Feldman put there heads together I think they can accomplish a major COMEBACK!I say Corey Haim & Corey Feldman should make their own version of Lost Boys 2 & get the orginal cast & director.I think that they have the right to do this.Lost Boys is the Coreys movie & it should be made with them in it!I would watch it!Screw Warner Bros.!I can't believe Warner Bros. is screwing the Coreys from Lost Boys 2!I think the Coreys should make their own version of the Lost Boys 2 & They should call it "The Real Lost Boys"!Haim I hope you feel better & Feldman I hope you get more serious about this comeback this is your last chance at this!Good Luck!I hope I see the Two Coreys in a bunch of big buget major blockbuster movies!I love the show!!!I hope Susie stops trying to ruin The Two Coreys chances of a comeback!

I agree, Susie's a major bitch. She always complains that everything's about Corey Haim, but that's kind of inevitable since he's a guest and THE COREYS have a show. She's selfish, fake, and manipulative, I hope something catastrophic happens to her in the show. Like maybe one of those vegans will attack her, or that old sack they call a dog. She's just riding off her hubby and the show!

What bothers me isn't the personality of Suzie, or anyone else on the show, but the fact that the producers think viewers are so retarded, simple, or just aren't conscious enough to realize that everything seems so fucking FAKE. Perhaps this is just indicative of the soul sucking, over-saturation of "reality" television, or just the continued blurring of fiction and truth which all forms of media are increasingly (and sadly) becoming more fascinated with. I enjoyed the Corey's films when I was a kid, but I hope this fake bullshit ends very soon. It's an embarrassment to everyone involved, and to the viewers thinking there's any actual, non-scripted "reality" in this drivel.

No one involved with the show denied that it is partially scripted. Corey Feldman has publicly said that it is. And one would think it would have to be, like any other reality show, but especially in this case, since the logistics are kind of weird. No one believes that "reality" TV is real. That's why the issue about getting recognition for the reality show writers exists. This isn't 1993. No one expects reality shows to be accurate depictions of reality.

I don't understand why they felt they had to include Susie on the show, since they clearly felt just fine about removing the Feldman's son (or perhaps putting him in a very convincing dog disguise?) She's obviously there to create tension, but she's overdoing it in every way. Unless she's psychotic and obsessive-compulsive (which she very well may be), her attitude is ridiculous. But the really ridiculous thing is her presence at all. The focus of the show is The Two Coreys, and she destroys everything of that by pulling attention to her weird freakouts. It seems like she doesn't even understand what the show is, which isn't surprising given her apparent IQ (mediocre at best). She's a nobody who happens to have whipped Corey Feldman. No one has any interest in her. She's not even a sideline. She takes every good possibility on the show and throws it in the toilet. It would be really fun to have this show on and see what could happen with the Coreys' careers, but I'm afraid with her around its neck like an albatross, it's going to quickly strangle and sink. And the Coreys will have to pay the price for this stupid, selfish, smug, stick-up-her-butt, social climbing wench.

It was a little childish of Corey Haim to call her a bitch, but someone had to, and clearly Corey Feldman couldn't quite do it, what with his tongue busy licking Susie's boots.

To the producers: Move her out---get her into that new house, maybe taking care of their abandoned son, maybe decorating the place, whatever, just not gobbling up camera time with her pasty face and football helmet hair. Then get on with the show about The Two Coreys.
