Flash Games: Gravity Pods, Triangles, Battleships Extreme

The weekend is upon us, play for your lives! That's right, it's Friday, and this is Friday Flash Games.

Every Friday I attempt to stave off the onrushing hordes of work-free, school-free days by presenting three or more games for you to play. Each game requires the Adobe Flash Player and is accessed via a Flash-supporting web browser. Firefox is a good one, and Internet Explorer works. Even Opera or Safari or some other tiny-market-share browser ought to work, but the iPhone won't. At least not yet.

I'll let you know when there is music or sound in any of the games, so you can adjust your volume accordingly. For some of you, that means turning it down so nobody knows you're playing a game. For others, that means turning it up so everybody knows you're playing a game. It's up to you.

This week, another eclectic mix.

Gravity PodsGravity Pods is a puzzle game in the form of a physics simulator.

It starts off simply: shoot the missile at the big purple shape. After a couple of levels intended to make sure you understand the idea, gravity sources are introduced, so now you've got to calculate how far they'll draw your missile off course. And where one gravity pod is interesting, three or four are even better.

Still, the first ten levels are a matter of trial and error, but easily reproduced if you memorize (or look up) the proper angles for each level. Level eleven introduces a twist: you place the gravity pods yourself! How many you need, and where they should go, makes for some fun.

The only controls on the first ten levels are the up and down arrows keys (to aim the cannon) and the space bar (to fire it). At level eleven, you'll need the mouse as well. There is a small sound effect when you complete each level, but that's it. The game helpfully remembers the last level you completed, so you can resume at any time from the same computer.

TrianglesTriangles tests your ability to play two games at once! With one hand on the keyboard, and one hand on the mouse, each hand controlling a different pink ball, how long can you escape the blue triangles coming your way?

Maybe it is just me but your battleship links don't go anywhere. They seem to link back directly to this post.

Well spotted, Mr Brewster. I've reported it to our esteemed Technical Director and I'm sure he'll be along to fix it real soon. Thanks.

It's a really screwy link, and our editing system has a tendency to break it when a certain option is used. I've replaced it with a redirector link which should survive future edits. Thanks!

P.S. It took two attempts to come up with a redirector link, as the redirector site was also confused by the screwy URL!
