DVD Review: Hannah Montana: Pop Star Profile
Published July 02, 2007
I like the fact that Disney decided to package a storyline, rather than just releasing a "Season 1" DVD set. Their target market may not have snapped up a multi-disc set, but they'll go for one DVD with a full storyline on it. Or, to put it another way, the parents of Hannah's fans will be more willing to shell out $15 than $50. So kudos to the smart marketing department at Disney. The video quality is good, and the audio quality is also quite good — though parents may want to invest in some headphones for their kids before taking this one on a car trip. That blasted theme song is still running thorough my head.
The only new material on the DVD is one music video (for "Nobody's Perfect") and the "Meet Miley Cyrus" interview. Don't expect anything controversial out of the interview — it's essentially a PR piece letting all the kids out there know that Miley is a real kid, just like them, who has brothers and sisters that torment her and parents that drive her crazy. And the 'exclusive music video' will be all over Disney Channel in a few months, I'm sure.
But the real question is, "Do the kids like it?" And the six-year-old in the back seat of the van watched this blasted DVD five times through this weekend, pausing only to watch the new High School Musical: The Concert DVD. So I would say that this video will drive parents nuts, and have us singing inane pop songs all day, but it will entertain the kids — and it may actually teach them something about life.
