Worms is a franchise that has been around since 1995, and at that time was a game that was so cute and violent at the same time it was hard not to pick up. As the years progressed, Worms turned to 3-D and lost many true fans of the series. Well thanks to Microsoft and Xbox live arcade, Worms in 2-D is back on the 360.

At its core, Worms is a turn based 'kill the enemy before they kill you' type of game. Each turn is time limited so you have to think your moves out ahead of time, as the 60 seconds you are given isn't enough for precision destruction. For those of you that remember Scorched Earth for the PC, you can jump into Worms and feel right at home. The controls may have you confused for a little while though if you are used to playing the PC version of Worms, but once you get the hang of the 360 controller, its the same great mayhem.

If you have a HD compatible TV, you will be in for a colorful treat. The colors are bright and the depth of the playing field, though in 2-D, is beautiful. The music leaves a bit to be desired, though, and the voice pack for the worms is lacking. A recent free download pack on the Live Marketplace helps a bit. There is a large assortment of weapons to use in the game, ranging from the default bazooka to the banana bomb. The terrain is destroyable, which can be used to your advantage. There isn't a large variety of backgrounds, but with the download support in the game there are at least a few more. Controls are fairly easy to pick up, but as with most games that have started life on a PC, the point-and-click function is a little cumbersome.

There are single player modes and multiplayer modes in Worms, and though single player is good fun, multiplayer over Xbox Live is where this game truly shines. Being able to destroy a friend of yours that lives in another part of the country and being able to laugh at him while he is helpless waiting for his turn, that is priceless. Single player has a quick match and then it has challenges that you can complete, some easy, some not so much.

The achievements in the game are not that difficult to obtain with a little playtime. They range from collecting crates to killing a certain number of worms, or the way you kill them. For a live arcade game they are pretty fun to get though, as opposed to some of the near impossible achievements that have been in some other XBLA games.

The addictive game play of Worms makes it well worth the 800 points ($10). If destruction isn't your cup of tea you could always play Solitaire.
