DVD Review: Wrestlemania 23 - Ultimate Limited Edition

Audio is a wonderful benefit to those watching this on DVD. While the crowd rarely picked up, there’s still something to hear in the rear speakers at all times. The ring makes a great pop from the front channels, and the entrance music provides some fantastic bass. It’s wonderfully immersive, and as close as you can get to a substitute for being there. ![]()
Extras are notable more for the packaging than anything else. Encased in a sharp, glossy, gorgeous metal fold-open holder, the three-disc set is snuggled in nicely next to some collectors cards.
The event itself is split over two discs. The final match is the only one on the second disc from the aired live event. Extras begin with a video montage of the announcement of Ford Field being host to the event. Three countdown features focus on the three main event bouts, and most fans had these pushed down their throat during WWE broadcasts before the show.
Vignettes of the events “All Grown Up” features follow in their entirety. More press conference highlights follow, including the announcement of Austin as the guest referee, and the day tickets went on sale. A short interview with CM Punk is a throwaway, aired on WWE.com during the show.
A lively tag team lumberjack match that occurred just prior to the live broadcast is thankfully included with Ric Flair/Carlito taking on Chavo/Gregory Helms. A match that occurred on RAW the following night, a rather throwaway tag team effort with the four combatants from the title matches at Wrestlemania, is also included. Two promos follow, one with Lashley revealing McMahon’s bald head, the second being a promo with Batista asking for a rematch.
The third disc leads to some interesting material. The entire Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is included here. Mr. Fuji, Jim Ross, Nick Bockwinkel, and Mr. Perfect are only a few of the notables. It’s worth watching for any wrestling fan. ![]()
For whatever reason, the WWE has also released a rather useless two-disc edition of this same event. It’s missing the Hall of Fame third disc and sharp packaging. Even stranger, it’s only a few dollars more for the three-disc set. It’s an easy choice.
