Music Review: Cher - Heart Of Stone

Cher's best solo album from the 80’s, Heart Of Stone is the album that catapulted her to fame again with hits like “If I Could Turn Back Time”, “Just Like Jesse James” and “Heart Of Stone.”  This album goes from strength to strength on those three songs alone. With strong lyrics, strong beats and the strong vocals of Cher this album is simply a winner.

If I Could Turn Back Time” is a song imprinted in most people’s memories for the video clip, alone, of Cher straddling a cannon on a U.S war ship.  The song is a favourite among most Cher fans with fantastic lyrics, but this isn’t all that surprising considering it is Cher, and is written by serial-songwriter Diane Warren.  Combine Warren together with another serial-songwriter Desmond Child and you get “Just Like Jesse James”. A catchy beat combined with even catchier lyrics like If you can give it, I can take it, cause if this heart is going to break it’s gonna take a lot to break it.” This is an anthem for all women determined to capture a man’s heart.

“You Wouldn’t Know Love” tells the tale of a woman dealing with an ex-lover trying to squeeze his way back into her life. Traditional of Cher when it comes to anti-love songs, it’s another catchy song that uses strong drum beats, and even stronger lead guitars.
Cher concentrates on even use of anti-love songs and love songs on this CD with the anti-love songs like “Heart Of Stone”, “You Wouldn’t Know Love”, “Does Anybody Fall In Love Anymore” balanced out by love songs like “All Because Of You”, “Kiss To Kiss” and “After All”.

Nice review, you might wanna also mention the involvement of John Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora as they wrote Jessie James and a few others on this cd.

Hey, most anything Cher puts out is great! This was one of the most impressive albums I think. I can't believe it took the album Believe until she got, what was it, an award for best selling album, i think it was? This was by far better, in my opinion, but maybe cause I'm pushing 50, i like the rock ballads better than the dance music.
